defending muslims against civil rights violations or racist talk does not mean approval of everything done in the name of islam.
The fifty-seven member nations of the Organization of the Islamic Conferences openly reject the UN's Universal Declaration of Human Rights because equality is against the core tenants of Islam.
I think there's confusion between liberal and leftist. A liberal wants freedom of the individual and a leftist wants control of the individual which the Islamist also want....so there's the tie between the 2 and why they are allied in trying to destroy the liberal and free USA and fundamentally transform it.
good point. Very true. Look at NY - the original nanny state with the least amount of personal freedoms of any other state in the country.

Isn't this a little contradictory, then?
Ummmm....What's contradictory about me supporting human rights? Are you saying that because a bunch of governments don't support human rights then I shouldn't either? How does that make sense?

I can't help but to notice that the left has a bizarre relationship with Islam. As we all know, the left hates Christianity, which ironically, for 1000 years after the fall of the Roman Empire, was the bastion of liberalism and Westernism in an extremely dark and backward time. It was Catholic priests who developed the scientific method, the university, western music, etc. Currently, Christian charitable organizations actually comprise the largest social and welfare organization on the planet, not social security, medicare, or anything else.
What I want to know is, why do liberals/the left side with Islam but bash Christianity? It's just such so bizarre considering Christianity is so peaceful in comparison and has helped so many poor
the radical left saw communism fall and thus western capitalism triumph , now they have hitched their wagon to radical islam , its a poor choice of ally as they are likely to be first up against the wall under shariah even the free market falls
the american right ( today ) loves israel above all and so by extension hates islam
during the cold war , the american right didnt have any particulary strong feelings towards islam , of course the " christian right " wasnt any kind of political force in america back then or at least had little influence at national level

Have anything factual to support that otherwise asinine allegation?
Actually, ancient Rome did have a dole of bread and grain to poor Roman citizens.
