I am not a real fan of Bill Bennett. He initiated the 'assault weapon' ban idiocy as drug czar under HW Bush in 1989. He was federal Education Sec'y, Drug Czar, and Chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Kind of the equivalent of a lib who had a career as head of the NRA, Christian Coalition, and Taxpayers Against Government Waste.
Nonetheless a blind squirrel comes up with a nut (squirrels use their noses more than their eyes anyway). Bennett makes an excellent point about the left's anti-science stance when it comes to Mary Jane:
The use of MJ has always been in essence a religious ritual and right of passage for the American left, linked to Gaia-worship. As someone who was a pot-smoker and persuaded liberal in my teen years, I know whereof I speak.

And actually I think it's the right who reject science on this. Pot has always been know to be medicinal. Yet, let's rely on the medical field who want to push man made drugs on us. Can you say "profits". God forbid we should use a natural plant for healing purposes.

I agree. De-criminalize all drugs and take the profit out of drug dealing. Let those who will destroy themselves do it, and let the rest of us get on with life without the gangs.
Everyone who smokes is a stoner. Everyone who drinks is an alcoholic. Everyone who eats is overweight.
I know people, some that I consider friends, who have smoked MJ for thirty or more years, and it's been like watching someone going into premature dementia.

I know quite a few people who have smoked that long and they are very successful. As with most things, when one overindulges they pay the price.
Are those people you speak of democrats?
It's not sarcasm. Stoners I've known have all changed over the years, and never for the better.
And do you know any alcoholics who haven't changed? I certainly don't! That is the beauty of personal responsibility - it preserves the freedom of the choice of how one lives. I guarantee there are more functional stoners than functional alcoholics. I also guarantee that alcoholics tend to become violent toward other humans, and stoners tend to to become violent to tacos!

You are a conundrum! I totally agree with your assessment! Get rid of the black market, use the tax income for drug awareness, and let the herd thin. Those who OD on illegal drugs, will just as likely OD on legal drugs. BTW, most overdoses are actually attributed to the poisons used to cut the drug.
