I agree that it's a mental disorder and it is dangerous for the medical community and society to enable people to indulge in their dysfunctional whims to the detriment of greater society.

Also, I wonder why he's the former Chief Psychiatrist.
Because he's old and retired.

As your moniker says "former hockey player".

It is likely a disorder similar to anorexia as the article says which can be treated.

A disorder of "assumption".

I'm not actually old. I wasn't good enough to keep playing competitively after Division 1 college hockey, unless I wanted to spend my youth toiling in minor European leagues.
This article has nothing to do with HOMOsexuality. The doctor isn't debating homosexuality.

It deals with TRANSgenderism. Neither article discusses homosexuals. You didn't read the articles.

That's your opinion. Now earn a phD and prove it.

Dinosaur who indulges in bad research practices.

"McHugh, an eightysomething self-described “orthodox” Catholic, who shut down Johns Hopkins’ pioneering Gender Identity Clinic in the 1970s after a single study suggested that some trans people continued to suffer from adjustment challenges after surgery, has a storied history of using his credentialed respectability to peddle the worst, most discredited, myths about gay and transgender people. He has called homosexuality an “erroneous desire,” filed an amicus brief to the Supreme Court in opposition to marriage equality, casts transgender women as “caricatures” of real women, and has argued that the Catholic Church’s sex abuse scandal is the result not of covering up pedophiles but of insufficiently rooting out gay people."
The Wall Street Journal displays shocking ignorance about LGBTQ issues.

Your "quoted" opinion doesn't make him wrong.

Really could care less if someone wants to lop off their penis or sew up their vagina. I just shouldn't have to pay for it vis-a-vis my tax dollars.

Instead of attacking his credibility. Why not discuss what he presents.

The way it is worded is likely offsetting. Sure, it is likely a disorder. Somewhere along the line the switch went off that created a penis, but the switch didn't go off that made that penis feel correct. Kind of like how some have the switch go off that creates an eye but the switch that make them work never goes off.

The question then is whether we force people to accept our beliefs on how to "fix this" or to allow them to "fix this" how they see fit.

IMO it's their body, their fix.
