Do you disagree that discriminating based on religion is illegal?
Of course I agree that discrimination is illegal. But I also know that some people make stuff up, for reasons of their own. Tawana Brawley comes to mind.
Wrong again, a Christian does not have set times they/we are supposed to pray, hence they can pray silently so as not to disturb the rest of the class
There are no requirements that Christians pray silently, they are free to pray whichever way they choose.
When the school district on its own initiative (as the school board member stated) gave the Muslim students an unrequested prayer room, they became obligated to provide unrequested prayer rooms for all other religions. To not do so constitutes discrimination based on religion, which is illegal.
Her name is Mary Veres, and she invites any of you who still have questions to call her at 520-545-2228. Edited to add - (That's her direct line BTW)
She knows of no christian kids who have asked for accommodation in the district, although she says she would not necessarily have heard of it, since granting the accommodation would be uncontroversial and routine. Right now, the only other group she knows of using school property for religious purposes is a group of adult district employees that meets monthly before business hours. If a group of kids approaches a school and asks for accommodation, the school contacts the relevant "church" - in this case, a mosque of course - to make sure that the kids are not trying to get out of class for non-religious reasons *and* to determine exactly what the kids need to be properly accommodated according to their church/mosque/coven, etc. I asked the (ridiculous) question that informedconsent posed, about the 19 religions and however many major groups. Of course she laughed. Then she said that in the event they ever had so many religious or other groups that the school did not have the space to accommodate them all during a given time frame, for instance lunch hour, that the groups would either need to accept other time frames or the school would have to refuse to accommodate any of them, since the school could not put itself in the position of choosing between them.
It was a very informative and pleasant conversation, and it reassured me that what I always suspected is in fact true - the word is not ending, and a public school in one of the most conservative states in the country is not favoring muslim kids over christian kids.
It is nice to have facts smacking down the claims of our resident religious bigots who love to pretend to be victims.
Don't you just hate it when Muslims are treated the same as everybody else?
You cannot be so dense as to not understand that the hypocrisy is what is being pointed out here, so maybe you are being sarcastic.
All Christians want is what they had for most of our countries existence, that being a morning prayer in school. However not only has that been taken away because of a misunderstanding of shall establish no religion vs. free exercise thereof, but attacks on any and everything Christian goes on daily in our public school system.
So when special privileges are afforded to a PC protected group, the majority wants to point out the hypocrisy.
Especially since it is the liberals against religious expression of Christians who champion it for Muslims. The irony of course is that Muslim cultures in many cases oppose key issues liberals are supposedly out to protect(i.e. women's rights, sexual liberation, homosexual equality, etc.).

Explain how your complaint has anything to do with the original topic - muslim kids praying at Desert View High School in Tucson, AZ. Go on, we're waiting.

Christian students CAN pray every morning, and any other time of day they choose. What they can not do is have said prayer over the PA system and force said prayer on the rest of the student body. The local HS has a group of students that gather every morning before class and has a group prayer at the flag pole. No one stops them.
Also most schools have a moment of silence after the pledge every morning, students can pray during that time if they so choose.

Won't stop them though, obviously.
I have to admit I'm having fun with this. The more these folks expose themselves in public as ridiculous, the better, as far as I'm concerned.
