Ebola cases in West Africa could multiply sixfold, affecting up to 20,000 as the virus "continues to accelerate," the World Health Organization said today, per Reuters. Some 1,552 people have now died out of the 3,069 cases reported—though the actual number of cases could be four times that amount, the AP reports.
The "AP report" they link that supposedly says 20,000 is to a 3 sentence link here that shows no report (and links back to their own site and not AP as they state)...
I am not doubting they said it as a worst case scenario, reporters love a how bad it could get statement because fear sells copy, I just wanted to see the report. Not the report of the report. I would rather see the data then a single hyped claim that has been latched onto.
Reporters latch onto weird crap to scare people. Like the old Jaws stat that 95% of shark attacks occur within 5 miles of shore (which leaves out the total that is extremely small). Well, do people think they are going to knock on the door and attack them? It got hyped way out of proportion with reality.

Sorry but if they have a CS monitor link, the odds are the numbers been verified. Looking at it from the outside it doesn't seem like a unreasonable number given the environment and whats occurring so far. Not something all that scary in a country with a decent medical system, totally terrifying if you live in one without.

Fair enough. As before though I want to see the study since it's interesting. It's scary stuff it's happening in places where the protocol is that you are locked away till you get better or die, which is so terrifying to family they keep their relatives away (infecting more people). A number of movies make guesses what would happen during an outbreak like this, and plans are made to see how well the systems in place to cope actually do.
