http://www.washingtontimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071226/COMMENTARY04/991383165/1012/COMMENTARY (broken link) Things didnt exactly turn out the way the dems had hoped, the war is turning around the economy is still great, congress under the dems cant seem to make any of the great moves they had claimed. If things keep going the way they are, It could turn out "GREAT IN 08" for the Republicans and the country!!

WOW! 4 1/2 yearsafter major combat operations ended, small short term miltary progress is trumpeted as a major accomplishment? Even though there's been littlw/no great political progress that will be necessary to stabilize Iraq? Next we'll be hearing Bush is obviously a brilliant planner because he managed to button his shirt by himself without his pants falling down
I don't think the economy is great. But its not as bad as the morning shows try to tell us. As far as the surge being a success? We have not stamped out Islamist terror - at best we have finally cut down some of the terror that was created when we invaded Iraq and caused one of the largest recruitments of terrorists in the history of the world. Bush spent a couple hundred billion on this surge to get us back to terrorist threat levels of 2003. I wouldn't call that a success. I would call it a VERY expensive fix to a huge problem that our mistake caused. National debt has skyrocketed while the value of the dollar has dropped tremendously.
All in all, I think Bush has come out better in 2007 than the liberal pundits and media would have expected, and I'm sure it has been dissappointing. But I don't think Bush looks good. He just doesn't look as horrible as many expected.
We'll see what the numbers are for December. Friends i know in retail say it's been awful.
A lot of economists say we could be headed for stagflation, just like back in the '70s. The housing market is abysmal right now, and the dollar is trading at decades-low exchange rates against the pound and Canadian dollar. I think we could be in for a rough 2008.
