I do have to wonder about the double or triple standards on slander. A book publisher puts out a book that contains an arguably incorrect statement about a hypothetical character (Scruffy Face-Ventura is never named in the book). And he get $1.8 million. He was butt-hurt, but suffered no other harm. NBC alters 911 tapes and blatantly portrays George Zimmerman as a racist and murderer for months...actions that inflamed a mobs of weak-minded people and tainted a jury pool. Yet they paid nothing. Where are the standards?
Now about the Ventura case:

Hopefully the karma bat hits the Ventura the circus performer up side the head sometime soon.

He could NOT have taken "the next step" because the SEALS weren't created until * YEARS AFTER Ventura left the NAVY.
"Ignorance is bliss" someone said.
Or some just like to throw the mud and see where it sticks.
"his service was sort of like that of GWB."
Which has absolutely NOTHING to do with issue we are discussing.
You need to expand your news sources if you want to be taken serious.
GWB EARNED an Honorable discharge.
