Well, it looks like we will be sending ground troops to fight ISIS.//www.city-data.com/forum/curre...nd-troops.html (hope this link works.)

These chickenhawks in Washington are always so gung-ho to send in the troops. They know their sons won't have to go because we have an all-volunteer military. Some poor smuck from Kansas will go, not "my special little snowflake."

We have not taken care of the soldiers, Marines, and others who have spent 10 years fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. There are so many veterans in the VA system who are broken; amputees from IEDs, traumatic brain injuries, and of course PTSD. One in 22 veterans commits suicide. There are thousands of broken veterans out there from the last two wars and now we want to send MORE!

I think it's time to bring back the draft. No college exclusions this time. Men and women too. The only exception, is if you're a only son or daughter that has to carry on the family name.

It's time everybody share in the sacrifice, not just a few.

What do you think CDers?

Fight your own ****ing war...

Why do we care?

We have all the oil we could ever want or use right here..**** the Middle East they are not worth fighting for.

Thomas Jefferson said it best.

"Our battalions for the continental service were some time ago so far filled as rendered the recommendation of a draught from the militia hardly requisite, and the more so as in this country it ever was the most unpopular and impracticable thing that could be attempted. Our people, even under the monarchical government, had learnt to consider it as the last of all oppressions."

"Bring back the draft?"
It never went away.
Since 1777, all male citizens (17-45) are the militia, legally obligated to train, fight and die, on command.
Militia duty is the reason why "Selective Service" is constitutional.

Title 10 USC Sec. 311. Militia: composition and classes
(a) The MILITIA of the United States consists of all able-bodied males at least 17 years of age...under 45 years of age who are ... CITIZENS of the United States ...
. . .
The Supreme court ruled, in Selective Draft Law Cases, 245 U.S. 366 (1918), militia duty (the Draft) is not INVOLUNTARY servitude. Why? Citizenship, in America, is 100% voluntary. Thus all civic duties imposed are by consent of the governed.
...

Bring back the draft for anyone that has defaulted on Federal student loans, and garnish their paychecks to payoff the money that they owe the government.

With $1.3 trillion in student loan debt. . . . . . It's payback time.

Every liberal should have to serve in the military. That they get combat would be particularly useful.

Then, maybe, they'll grow the hell up.

But didn't the 14th decree all persons born were effectively demoted to "citizens" simply be being born?

I recall there was a proposition back in the early 1900s that would put a declaration of war up for the citizens to vote on.

Anyone who voted "yes" was then obligated to serve.

Shame that never came to be.

No, no draft please(in reality Selective Service registration is the supply line for the draft).

In theory...we CAN still use military force in a very smart and logical manner. In the current situation, the use of military force should be limited to eliminating or capturing military targets.

We should not occupy of babysit any of the 9th world Headchopper "countries"........dumb idea and a waste of resources.

It is a very serious problems, terrorism that is. We have to let the Jihadis-Of-The-Month club know that an attack on the USA's citizens, interests and homeland will result in a reaction that will possibly make them and their families into something resembling Humanburger.

Most people don't want to see the draft in effect. This way they don't have to get involved. They can sit back with a beer and watch the bombs in comfort on TV. Gone are the days when the causality reports of GI'S were nightly news. War is becoming common place and so is being a spectator untouched by any personal connection to it. Who wants to send any kid off to die when they haven't had a chance to live. An all volunteer military keeps everything sanitary and the only ones that have to make any hard choices are the volunteers, which they do.

The government doesn't want a draft either. It knows from experience that an informed and effected population will not continuously support a constant state of war. They will be provoked to mass demonstrations in the street to end involvement in unjust or long pointless war without end. Volunteers are the way to go if you want to keep the war machine well greased and the MIC well oiled with profit. The people agree to do nothing to prevent or stop wars and that is the desire of government too.

War is sometimes unavoidable and necessary. A nation that involves itself in one after the other, year after year, is demented in leadership. The population of such a nation will find no safe haven nor ascend to a higher quality of life by such methods. It's easy to destroy something. The difficulty is building something of quality that is lasting. A nation at war seldom constructs anything of value but that which is used to destroy. Look around and see what great undertaking are we involved with on a national level.

That's why I support the draft.
