Good thing the neighbor that called 911 wasn't a Joe Horn type or else this youngster would be dead.

It is crystal clear some communities are isolated frm mainstream society living on an isolated island and have replaced the law of the land with a street gang mentality. There are consequences when the culture adopts gang rule and is ignorant of the law and acceptable conduct.

"The three officers dispatched to investigate found the side door ajar and walked in, guns drawn."

Yeah, I'm sure that door was ajar

In a fictitious Star Trek universe about 300 years from now...maybe what you said actually makes sense.

He was in his own home, on his own property, the police (once again) acting unilaterally and above the law f-ed up. Of course they can't come out and say they f-ed up as that would be an admission of guilt.

The police hide behind the "self-defense" rule which covers just about all egregious actions short of in your face executions (in which case you can get away with that if there's no video proof) and a union which will defend their actions right or wrong. Not unlike the mafia, except worse in that the legal/judicial system supports it.

The standards for officer training can't be very high as they don't have people who can think critically and rationally.

I believe the police should have a website where you can sign up for police protection.

If you add you home address to the list and a call comes in about a burglary there, they will respond but there will be the possibility they detain you until they are given some sort of proof that you are a resident. You can opt out, and they will not respond to such calls at your residence.

I also believe communities should be able to vote as to whether or not they receive police patrols. It would be so nice if I no longer had to pay, through home owners' dues, for patrols but received them because other high crime areas said they didn't want them.

They have no idea who's property it is, all they know is there was a report by the neighbor that there was a burglar and they have the right to ensure the person they found in home had the right to be there. The kid decided to be a SA and not comply when the police confronted him, he is lucky all he got was a little pepper spray, they could have taken him down hard if they wanted to. Why would they have to admit to doing anything wrong from the sound of they did just fine.

Yes we get it you do not like or trust law enforcement, please make sure to never call 9-11 for assistance, after all you know that somehow they will treat you badly in the process. Fair is Fair.

Why don't you apply since you seem to believe you have all the right qualities, then you could improve the system from the inside.

The cops' biggest problem here is why the entered into the house without a warrant.
