Our first priority is to prevent harm. She is clearly helping her mental heath by taking a bike ride in the woods after a month in West Africa and maltreatment at the hands of government. Think how she would feel stuck in her house....depression comes on quickly and can be deadly.
Ah empathy! A quality that conservatives have in very short supply.
I don't think Kaci Hickox is doing this for the benefit or patients though. She's doing this for political reasons. What is the benefit to her patients if she breaks quarantine?
I'm glad you clarified your position because it did seem, initially, you were claiming nurses were legally allowed to break laws. Her ability to break the law and face the consequences (e.g. engage in civil disobedience) is something any American can do.
The benefit is that the threat of quarantine isn't held over volunteers' heads. A threat that will surely give pause to people who might otherwise volunteer. And the benefit of having volunteers is that Ebola could be contained to the nations currently affected, that volunteers from the United States could save lives in those affected nations. And by saving lives there, by containing this outbreak, millions of lives around the world are potentially saved.

Give me a break. She announced her plans to break the quarantine in advance. That's political. Has nothing to do with her 'mental health'. What, you think that two days ago she knew that she would need to take a bike ride for her mental health or do you think it was planned to become intentionally provocative and make a political statement? Seriously, you can't possibly believe your own weak argument.
We are not above the law. WE are willing to break it and face the consequences (like Traci) when we believe we are morally obligated to oppose it (As she does).
"Morally obligated", eh? You've opened a can of worms on that one!

This may be why nurses generally don't make policy.
