Everyone should stop worrying so much. Congress will soon pass a law against ebola. Then we can all rest in peace.

And if Congress doesn't act, the president will issue an executive order.

this is because like ms Kaci Hickox
CDC employee said

you can only detect ebola when symptoms appear.

if your body has very little ebola at the moment then your tests will show negative until you become sick
but at that point you are already contagious.

Kaci stomp your feet some more

Actually, it's more complex than this. However, simply put antibodies are created to fight off the infection and those can be tested for. The more sophisticated the test, the more accurate the answer. Kaci Hilcox not only did not have ebola antibodies when tested, her blood which was tested several times did not either. I assume she is clear now (21 days) but not a mention in the news.

I fear for a public which is bent on sensational news rather than accurate results. The "stomping your feet" reflects the posters lack of maturity imho. She set an example rooted in science and asserted her rights. That is what it means, to be free. Next time you stand up at a ball game and hear those words "land of the free home of the brave" you may want to reflect on what an American is. Many people have forgotten or never knew.

Human trials of the vaccine began this month in Geneva with W.H.O. The anticipate a working vaccine by next year earlier than later. They are also testing a Fingerstick test which would be invaluable in large dense population centers.

When the next virus hits which is airborne be ready. These were one or two infections....and people went kinda nuts. Think about if it was hundreds...or thousands. Food stores would become armed fortresses. You may want to contemplate that while you are criticizing strong people.

Glad that she is well.

Dr Salia didn't make it. It human nature to cling to the "good news i.e. negative test" and resist another test. He waited too late and they couldn't save him. It's worth remembering that Dr Salia was a Surgeon, he didn't work with Ebola patients.

Martin Salia’s friends hugged him when his first test showed he was free of Ebola. Now he has died, and questions remain.

Ebola has now moved into Mali - the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Sunday that airport screening will begin for travelers arriving in the United States from Mali, which lies inland from Sierra Leone and Liberia and has begun to report cases of the disease. 340 health care workers have died of Ebola in Sierra Leone ..... this isn't "over".

It looks like bird flu may soon replace Ebola on the fear factor scale. There is an outbreak in the Netherlands and in China. The one in China apparently kills people but not birds so you have no way of knowing if it is being passed in a bird population. These bird flu viruses in China have always been the real threat lurking in the darkness.

The hospital Dr Salia worked at did not treat Ebola but they were aware that some of their patients could have Ebola and contact with bodily fluids is very much a part of all surgery. He also travelled the country, Sierra Leone, lecturing and teaching. All things considered, it's probably reasonable to assume every human contact in parts of Sierra Leone carry the potential for infection of Malaria, Ebola or some other deadly nasty.

He was experiencing multiple organ failures upon arrival in the US and was beyond the point of no return, as this virus goes.

According to the link, Ebola tests in Sierra Leone are not as good as they are in the US.

China, Africa's largest trading partner, has begun to send what will be 1000 doctors and nurses and an elite unit of the army to the affected zone. Cuba, of all places, has sent 165 MDs and plans to send 296 more.

WHO says 4500 additional healthcare workers are needed.

Good point. Last year, at least in our area, the deaths were men and women 40-60 who had recently flown and transited airports and who had NOT received the flu inoculation.
