We don't need another czar! We need a president who will lead and who will call for a ban on travel from west Africa and who will secure our borders. The infrastructure for this is already in place, well, except for the leader.

Obama open to appointing Ebola 'czar,' opposes travel ban
It is clear he is totally inept and it's time for him to go before he gets thousands of Americans killed. This is going to turn out very badly. Shut down flights from infected countries period.

There are reports in ancient medical texts describing a disease believed to be ebola that cut the population of Athens in half.

This is so immoral to me. Ebola has been around for a long time. Change of travel policy - and now it's here. How can anybody who cares about its citizens allow this to happen. We know what this disease does - and to allow it here - thoroughly disgusting to me.

Leader? Right now the borders are wide open to let people in with diseases we never used to let happen.

I know this is bigger than Obama. We have some immoral people running around in DC.

cheap labor and being politically correct are more important than the well being of the US citizens

Sure they have ...... Except for that tiny little problem that the Democrats won't support Dr. Vivek Murthy, who Obama nominated in November 2013 (not exactly a "couple of years" ago). Murthy has great qualifications - he is the head of Doctors for Obama and believes that a Gun Ban is the top priority of the Surgeon General. Harry Reid can't get any nominee through Confirmation that he pleases .... Since he "changed" the rules and now only needs a 51 Vote to confirm any candidate. Harry's problem is that his Democrats won't confirm Murthy.

Obama's pick for Surgeon General in 2009 was more than a little strange - but she was confirmed Unanimously by the Senate for the job. She resigned during the ObamaCare flop in 2013 - she was a Major supporter of ObamaCare.

Surgeon General Regina Benjamin Resigns

As for the current Surgeon General - we certainly have a SG .... even if Boris Lushniak is an "acting" SG. On the other hand - Dr Talks-A-Lot (the CDC has this totally under control) is a personal favorite of the Prez, so he is in charge. The Acting Surgeon General is very qualified - he is a Rear Admiral (that would be a black mark against him with the Prez), has been with the CDC for 16 years and worked with anthrax and infectious disease + his Harvad degree in Public Health, Medical degree from Northwestern, and his experience as a Navy Doctor. He has a lot more experience that Dr WE-Have-this-Under-Control who came to the CDC from Nanny Bloomberg in New York.

Politics Trump again.

I caught the tail end of Hannity this evening for a daily dose of hysteria. He had multiple guests, politicians in need of face time on a split screen. They were having tantrums more befitting a toddler. One guy let loose with how 35 other nations had banned travel from the infected areas, including France, UK and Spain. Absolute lies to achieve a political outcome.

Again, there are no direct/ non- stop flights between the U.S. and the hot zone.

Air France and British Air ceased commercial flights to/ from the hot zone. This is not the same thing as banning documented travelers who recently traveled in the hot zone from entering their country. No country outside of Africa has banned travel. No countries outside of Canada, UK and the U.S. even screen incoming passengers from connecting flights. Brussels Air flies non-stop twice a week to/ from Liberia and they don't screen passengers departing these flights. Reportedly, the majority of passengers are not Liberian Nationals and 2/3 of those on these flights connect to flights to all points throughout Europe and the U.S.

Royal Air Maroc continues to fly between Casablanca and Liberia 3X week and Sierra Leone 2X week. Reportedly, the majority of passengers connect to flights to Asia and the middle east.

This is an international issue and beyond a logistical nightmare.

How long is a long time?
WHO declared epidemic in August.

What change in travel policy caused it to be here?

This is in here somewhere I bet but this is ridiculous;

Obama Administration Found Nearly 25 Percent Chance of Ebola Spread to USA

"The Defense Threat Reduction Agency and the federal government’s Models of Infectious Disease Agency co-funded a September 2 analysis on the threat of Ebola’s spread to countries including the United States, Israel’s Arutz Sheva reported. The analysis was circulated among federal government officials prior to its September 2 publication date.

The analysis found a nearly 25 percent “probability of Ebola virus disease case importation” to the United States within 3 to 6 weeks.

Nevertheless, President Obama falsely said on September 16 that experts “across our government” agree that America's Ebola vulnerability was extremely low. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) also repeatedly assured the American people that the Ebola risk was low, even after the alarming government study was completed.'
