Why deradicalize anyone? Muslims have a right to be fanatical.

Just let them be. They weren't bothering us til we started bothering them.

Geez...it's simple folks.

Isn't there a good muslim, someone higher up on the totem pole of influence who can basically over rule the radicalizers and say "That's not what the quran is teaching!"

Who can the world find to step up?
...but it is what the holy Quran teaches, and to be a Muslim you must accept that the holy Quran is the literal word of Allah...

The radicals are following their own version of Islam. They are not going to listen to anything he says. If anything, they'd kill him.

"Who is the most prominent muslim in the world and why can't he 'deradicalize' people?"

Same reason the most prominent Christian in the world cant defundamentalize Christian extremists. They just dont listen nor do they care.

There are several reasons actually. As someone wrote above there is no one supreme leader of Muslims save for Allah. Issuing such an edict would presuppose that your adherents would be capable of listening to reason. etc.

Take this forum for example reasonable people who don't conveniently dismiss facts as though it were paranoia or bigotry recognize Islam for the threat to the non Islamic world that it is. Don't believe me read for a few minutes any thread with the word "Muslim" in it. They can be summarized as follows...

Poster A: Well it has happened again! The Muslims have carried out the threat to behead another "fill in the blank countries citizen".

Poster B: Oh, here we go again. It is the Evil Muslims coming to get us. Have you watched Fox News this morning without taking your medication? You must me a redneck, bigoted islamophobe.

Poster A: Actually I read about it in the NY Times.

Poster B: You are a damn liar and the world would be a better place without you. Everyone knows it is just a few Muslims who misunderstand or have been misled by radical Clerics. Muslims want to Integrate and Love the West. They even will tell you once the Sharia is implemented you can simply pay a tax and rather than convert and you property and your life and family will be spared. In fact Fox news won't report on it but throughout the Middle East Christians and Jews are living in Peace and Security in Muslim Republics.

Belief is a very, very powerful thing and we are all taught this from a very early age. Whether it is believing you can hit a Baseball, Get a good grade, Get a Promotion, Lose weight without exercise, grow your hair back (man how I wish this were true), etc. In the example above "Poster B" has decided that person reporting the facts is a racist, bigoted, Islamophobe and of course these are personality traits that cannot and should not be tolerated. So rather than offer up any compelling counter argument support be fact and analyzed with reason they condescend to and dismiss the person who through careful examination of the facts from various sources has come to the conclusion Islam is very, very, bad.

You cannot reason someone who is unwilling to debate the facts.

Worldwide, it has been estimated that almost half of all Muslims are inbred:

A rough estimate shows that close to half of all Muslims in the world are inbred: In Pakistan, 70 percent of all marriages are between first cousins (so-called "consanguinity") and in Turkey the amount is between 25-30 percent.

Statistical research on Arabic countries shows that up to 34 percent of all marriages in Algiers are consanguine (blood related), 46 percent in Bahrain, 33 percent in Egypt, 80 percent in Nubia (southern area in Egypt), 60 percent in Iraq, 64 percent in Jordan, 64 percent in Kuwait, 42 percent in Lebanon, 48 percent in Libya, 47 percent in Mauritania, 54 percent in Qatar, 67 percent in Saudi Arabia, 63 percent in Sudan, 40 percent in Syria, 39 percent in Tunisia, 54 percent in the United Arabic Emirates and 45 percent in Yemen.

So there's a significant portion of the population that's addle-brained and slightly retarded. Do they special ed de-radicalization programs there?
That would explain the very homogenic look I noticed among natives in the Gulf

These people perverting the religion of Islam are doing so to gain power over others, it's just that simple.

Remember Islam is government and politics, and government gives those in charge power and control over other people, at the point of a sword.
