America has an over abundance of murder and mass killings. However, it seems that only those who have a Muslim faith are demanded to be called terrorists by the right. Many people subscribe to one religion or another.

What particularly makes a killing event a terrorist act?

Why aren’t mass shootings called terrorism?

You could have answered your question by simply looking the word up in a dictionary. It's pretty simple. If the purpose of killing someone is killing someone, then it's plain old murder. If the purpose in killing someone is to achieve a political end, then it's terrorism.

This is a bit off topic but:

Re: mass killings - over the past century:

1. 1 million Armenians
2. 6 million Jews
3. 20 million Russians
4. 2 million Cambodians

Millions of others in Rwanda, China, North Korea, any number of Middle Eastern countries. Just to name a few.
Past Genocides - Armenia, Holocaust, Cambodia, Bosnia, Rwanda, Darfur

I get what you're saying and what you're asking, but gun violence has been decreasing for the past twenty years, and I therefore do not even agree with the original premise of your post that we have an abundance of murder and mass killings in the US.

I would not classify mass shootings as domestic terrorism because the motive of terrorism is to use terror as a tool to achieve political and ideological goals.

I don't recall McVeigh being a Muslim.

He was killed by lethal injection for the 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah federal building in Oklahoma City. Nineteen children were among his victims. Hundreds of others were injured in the worst terrorist act ever on American soil.

Then why does the right want to label the Oklahoma man who beheaded a coworker, an act or terrorism?Mainstream Media Continues to Call Oklahoma Beheading 'Workplace Violence'

An Oklahoma man was charged Tuesday with first-degree murder in the beheading of a co-worker, but federal officials said they had found no links between him and Islamic extremist groups that have beheaded several Western hostages in the Middle East and North Africa in recent weeks.

Isn't it more important that the government didn't say it was an act of terrorism ?
What the government says counts.

The intent better known as motive.

It's not just "the right" ... most Americans (exception the Obama Parrots) believe when the Murderer calls on Allah when he does his Murderous Act and has a documented history of following Jihadist Websites ..... then it's an Islamist Terrorist Act.

We have an Administration that does not accept that such a thing as Islamist Terrorism exists - they don't accept that Jihadists exist. They can call it whatever their idiotic brand of Political Correctness dictates, but most people understand exactly what it is, and what it is not.

It is NOT simple "Work Place Violence" to chop off heads.

We certainly top the world list of school shootings.
