What would you expect LBJ to do? His mentor was Sen Dick Russell of Georgia. He had to "go along to get along" and had to play both sides. To his credit, LBJ did not sign the southern Manifesto back when he was Majority Leader back in 1957. I don't envy the role of having to placate both sides, but feel that it was the way that he HAD to be if he wanted to accomplish the advancement of civil rights. The "N word" is widely reviled now, but that was not the case back in the 1950s, 1960s. Southerners used it quite freely.

Let's look at what this argument actually says. I should vote for the party that gutted the Voting Rights Act, because almost 50 years ago, the democrat who signed the VRA, thus ensuring black people around the country could take part in politics, supposedly said "The N-Word".
No, sorry, actions speak louder than words. I don't vote for people to say pretty things - I watch things like The Flash or Agents of SHIELD for that. I vote for people in order to pass laws that I like, and repeal or modify laws that I don't. And in terms of race, there's not a single reason to vote for the GOP.
We are both on the same page at this point. It leaves this question. What do Blacks do about the political situation. At this point in time, the Democratic Party doesn't have much to offer, and voting Republican isn't going to help either. I think there is reluctance to vote for a 3rd party because it is perceived as a wasted vote. Where to go next if all of this is the case?
Well I usually vote libertarian because that's the party that I'm most ideologically aligned with. 3rd parties will always be perceived as a wasted vote until more people begin to realize that the two main parties are the real wasted vote. Democrats and Republicans are far too alike to provide any substantive choice. I think a lot of the black people I know would be pretty well suited by the green party.
