And the non-poor also pay part of their income in taxes that are not federal income tax. So that argument is a bigger misconception.
Well, since I was merely refuting the claim that poor people pay NO taxes, I don't think it is.

How about only giving entitlements to folks that work and pay taxes, save their money, and only have as many children as they can afford, and not people that don't? That sounds good to ME.
Take money away from people who need it and give it to people who don't?
Reagan started doing this in the 80s.
The current Republican test is being done in NC. Cut taxes and then cut taxes again for Corps only starting Jan,2015. Cut UE for a large drop in UE. Only to see the UE rate going the wrong way.
Have a revenue shortfall and hide it using reserves (creating Debt). Give out raises to employees of the Govt. without an increase in revenue (creating more debt).
Cut revenue so far you cannot intice large or small co. to come to state.
Cut funds to Counties, cap sales taxes, forcing Real Estate taxes to rise.
I have seen this before,in NJ, where the debt is up to 6 billion.
Except that she is also in a high marginal tax bracket, since every dollar she earns reduces her food stamps and EITC.
No she's not. SNAP gets reduced by less than a $1 for each dollar of additional revenue and the EITC will actually increase up to a certain point.
At $16K the mom will get $7,993.
At $16.64K the mom will get $8,089.
At $20K the mom will get $8,068.
At $26K the mom will get $6,821.
A family of 4, even at $26K, will get about $649 in SNAP, so that's another $7,788 that she will get. I'm not counting section 8 since there is usually a 10 year wait, but it is reasonable that the person in our example is eligible for more gov programs.

And it's amazing how people on this forum seem to think it's an issue of universal taxation vs. universal lack or dearth of taxation.
How about taxing people who can afford to pay taxes, and not taxing people who can't? That sounds good to me.
How exactly do you lower taxes on someone that is in the negative tax bracket? Even if we assume that all of our mythical mom's income ($8*2,080) is spent on goods subject to sales tax we come up with $1331 in taxes and are still around the negative 40% range and that isn't even including SNAP.
So, like I said, the single mom with 3 kids working at McD's is irrelevant if we are talking about tax cuts (the OP).

1. Read the article.
2. Come back with a response that makes sense.
3. Conversation may ensue.
Think about it. If we lower taxes, that gives everyone, including the self-proclaimed LIBERALS more disposable income. And since they care so much about the poor, illegal aliens, poor women needing abortions or childcare, then they would have more money in their pockets to give to them. But, if we keep raising taxes, all the money gets strained out by the government bureaucrats and it never reaches all these 'worthy causes' of the down-trodden. So if we drop taxes WAY low, the money could pass directly from the hands of these "we-care-about-the-poor-and-you-don't" into all those poor victims they want to help.
C'mon, LIBS, what do you say? I mean, if you don't want the government telling gays they can't marry or woman they can't have abortions, then why would you want the government to handle the money that you want to go for helping the poor?
Now the far right has said, "LIBs only help the poor with other people's money and never their own." But this would give them a chance to prove otherwise. With super low taxes, we would all eventually discover for sure who really cares about the poor and who doesn't.
Both parties want lower taxes, but each party wants lower taxes for different people.
Republicans practice supply side economics, that means tax cuts for the rich and large corporations. Like the Bush tax cuts that gave the richest 1% of Americans 52% of the tax cuts, and the middle class 10% of the tax cuts. Bush Tax Cuts After 2002: June 2002 CTJ Analysis
Republicans insist the way to help working people is by helping rich people. Democrats insist the way to help working people is by helping working people. Who's to say who is right?
(Duh, the Democrats are right, why is this even a debate?)
How anyone can think that funneling our hard earned money to the government is good is beyond me. Obviously it's either and or three things... as long as it's someone else's money, they hope it will trickle to them, or Gruber (Democrat) who called Americans stupid is right.
It's kind of been the basis of every successful civilization....

This. Plus the fact Republicans and Democrats think taxes should be spent differently makes for any reasonable or effective reform impossible, save for a catastrophic event.
