My primary concern on a Federal level is the corruption of our government by big business, primarily Energy and Military contracting, and the related Imperial Excesses in other countries. Lesser concerns are the vilification of the poor and adulation of the rich.
The continuation of humanity over the long term...as in I want the human species to still be around a million years from now.
I hope to live as long as possible so I can watch society develop. I salivate every time I hear about the prospect of humans setting up colonies on Mars.
The second thing I'm most passionate about would be finding life elsewhere in the solar system. I salivate over that prospect too.
I don't know if I'd say I'm the most passionate about it, but the issue I'm most interested in discussing / debating is probably gun rights, at least as of now it's the issue I mostly discuss on here..... I used to be real big in to discussing smoking bans to. I'm willing to give my opinion on anything having to do with government over reach, Constitutional issues, etc/
The underlying issue(s) I'm most interested in are those that involve the underlying debate of personal liberty vs. the collective good.
I would pick "Government overreach" and "Constitutional issues" (lack of respect for and lack of understanding).
The continued unrestricted growth of government and the attendant power of the executive branch.
And, no, this isn't just about Obama either. But when one man decides he can completely nullify immigration law -- or any law --with a swipe of his pen, then that's serious, serious trouble.
Now this is when the myopic will leap up and make the same familiar arguments based on party lines or how they feel about immigration. But to do so is to be blind to future abuse.
Let me put it this way. If you're okay with Obama simply granting mass amnesty to millions through executive order, how will you feel about a future president you don't like using executive orders to do something you don't like? Precedents matter, you know. And if the President's actions are allowed to stand, you're essentially telling all future presidents that they can do whatever they want without having to so much as consult Congress. One would have to be an idiot to not understand where this would go.
