There's video and apparently police procedure was followed, so there is no "story" here.

The body cam helps a lot. You clearly see that he wasn't shot from behind with headphones in his ears. He might have gotten confused which is why he reached into his pants since he was drunk.

Middle-class doesn't get too upset about it because we mostly don't go walking around drunk at convenience stores wearing clothes such that we'd have to pull our pants up to get down on the ground. We usually listen to police rather than shouting back "No, fool" or assaulting them like Brown did. As such, we tend not to get shot for assaulting police or for reaching in our pants by a police officer who clearly thinks we are an immediate threat.
