Although this is part of the Islamic Sharia law practiced in several Islamic countries, I believe cutting the hands of the thief is a great idea because crime rate will drop significantly; who wouldn't be scared of having their hands cut off? I don't think anybody would be brave enough to steal due to this harsh penalty. Yes, it is barbaric, but sometimes you need to scare those thieves! Of course they must be convicted and found guilty first. Our prisons are packed with so many people, which is costly! Obviously young children stealing candy from stores does not apply to this.

This is not adopting Sharia Law (which is unConstitutional) but an idea from it.

What do you think?

Well, I think this is an idiotic idea! And there's something standing in the way called the constitution.

I think it would make us just as backward and vicious as they are.

So some kid steals a CD from wal-mart and we're going to mutilate this 16 year old for life?

In reality it has to be a really bad theft as it is rarely done. Saudi Arabia does it about once a year. They prefer the death penalty instead.

You know, I'm confused as to why all these people on here who talk about the death penalty, torture, etc. don't just move to those countries that practice these things openly & proudly? By all means, if that's what you gleefully promote, please relocate to where you can get it. I would like my country to maintain at least a modicum of civility.

Why move? We do that in the states, proudly and openly

I don't think the death penalty should be used as much as it is. But, for instance, there was a guy in Alabama years back now that basically boiled his 2 year old step daughter alive in a scalding hot tub. Little girl died about a week later after suffering 3rd degree burns over 90% of her body in horrific pain.

I have no problem with that SOB having the most horrific death humanly possible.

OP... your posts here slam Muslims quite a bit, and yet you advocate a barbaric act like what they do in Muslim countries by cutting the hand off of someone for stealing? Kind of a bit hypocritical don't ya think? No. We absolutely should NOT advocate anything close to any kind of Sharia Law in the United States!

Why stop at hands? Cut their heads off and they won't even think about stealing again.
