I love John Lennon, but I find it hard to believe that he thought his lyrics were anything but idealistic. Just like anyone else, he would've objected if someone suddenly expected him to live the way the words suggest. But I think they are just suggestions, something to think about. And there has to be something between what we have now and the completely unrealistic world he described. Maybe that's where he wanted us to be. Or maybe he just wrote a song and recorded it and that was that. Either way, I think it's beautiful.
John Lennon was a multimillionaire and he is survived by a banshee. No collective there....
A banshe that is also a huge 'new world order' promoter . She too thinks we should all be one big happy world family, controlled of course by people like her who knows how to keep us in 'order' .
Go to Radioliberty.com and read Yoko Unos story . 'Georgia Guidestones' or ' Stonehenge ' This website has some pretty far out conspiracy stories , but some of it is fact based news stories . So go with open mind .
If you want to debate the intent of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, RadioLiberty is about the last place I would look. With all due respect, their objectivity in reporting is not the best on the net.

I think John was just another rich hippy socialist who wanted everybody else to give their money away to feed the poor , while he sqeezed his dollar til the eagle screamed and the all seeing eye was blackened !
' Imagine ' was a song meant for Netherland . I did like the music and his voice, but couldnt get past the lyrics enough to really enjoy it .
My favorite Beatles song was sung by George Harrison and written by Eric Clapton , " While My Guitar Gently Weeps ". It is the perfect song for what has happened to my country's citizens .
By 'countries' Lennon is referring to 'nation states'. The agenda and political purposes of the nation state are changing in our own lifetime. For example, in Europe the creation of the European Union represents the idea that at least some important aspects of a nation's monetary policy, which previously in the 20th century were seen as the exclusive purview of each nation state, can be delegated to a supra-national body. It's not that surprising that for some nations the responsibility and risks of fully managing their own currency is too difficult to put into practice (Thailand?). This development in Europe is probably going to spread to other regions of the world, in my opinion.
So, if other aspects of the political operations of nation states are seen to be acceptable to delegate to a supra-national organization, the practical meaning of the traditional 'nation state' will have changed. Only in a more limited sense will there be a nation of Italy, Spain, etc.
From the song "Imagine" by John Lennon
“Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace
Imagine no possessionsI wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world”
John Lennon
After reading those lyrics, do you agree with them?
Do you think that if there were no countries (or nationalism or patriotism) or religion that the world would be a more peaceful place?
What about the part that says “Imagine all the people sharing all the world,” do you think that’s possible? Or are people just too greedy?
In general, what’s your opinion about those lyrics from the song “Imagine” by John Lennon?
My quick summarized opinion is, I think that maybe the world would be a little more peaceful if there were no countries, and if everybody just belonged to the same country - I think it would give everyone, everywhere a sense of having something in common. And maybe instead of Americans wanting to protect American, and Russians wanting to protect Russia, and Chinese wanting to protect China, and so on, everyone would just look out for the whole world. HOWEVER, I do love different cultures! And I love that the world has so many! So I probably wouldn’t like it very much if there was only one huge culture.
As far as religion goes, I think it has its positives and negatives. I don’t follow any particular religion (I love learning about them though – they’re so interesting!), I mostly just live by “The Golden Rule” (don’t do to others what you wouldn’t want done to yourself). I think that religion provides a lot of great morals and ideas. The only thing I can think of that is truly negative, is that with every religion, there are the extremists who don’t tolerate others opinions and views very well.
And I can’t imagine all the people in this world “sharing” everything – at least not right now.
Anyway…
I just really want to hear what others think
while this sounds like a good idea, i find it to be more if a dream. people are never going to get together and work for any greater good of humanity. there will always be a few of us that will be shady, and eventually two groups would ensue: the haves and the have nots.
peace would be absolutely beautiful, but humans (as a whole as in humanity) are too greedy, ignorant, stupid, selfish, religion addicted, and narrow minded to seperate themselves from their seedy belief system.
i do however believe that humanity is capable of much more that we are now, and nationalism and religion are the two biggest offenders, but not the only offenders. humanity is only capable of so much, and we will always succumb to comfortable acceptance and let someone else take the show...

Interesting thoughts. I've always said, if we separated EVERYBODY, and distributed them evenly over the whole usable face of the earth, and told them to "leave each other alone"...People would be able to be free of their former oppressors...they'd be able to get a 'fresh start'....
But then, within minutes, people would strike up conversations--which would lead to 'grouping' and 'cliques'. Very soon these groups would clash with OTHER groups, and in two weeks, we'd be back to where we are now---man beating up on his fellow man....it's just human nature..
I think that without the religion, the world would be a completely different place, I think that to an extent religion gave people morals and standards to live by. & I think that greed, and wanting things just comes naturally to pretty much everyone. We discussed a topic like this one in my English class last year, and to quote what my teacher said, "If you want to find out how much man loves his money, try to borrow some."
That's a really good way to look at it, and I think you're right. If the world had no countries, then eventually, one day, a group of people would start changing their ideas and wanting something different which could end up in a war with a divided country.
It would be the same way if there were no religions or one religion that everyone believed in.
Pretty soon someone is going to start thinking something different from everyone else. They'll find people who agree with them -- and there you go -- there's going to be controversy and pretty soon a schism. Or someone's going to decide there is a god and same thing.
And --- the Beatles themselves ended up becoming divided, no longer seeing eye-to-eye and they split apart.
