From the song "Imagine" by John Lennon
“Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

Imagine no possessionsI wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world”
John Lennon

After reading those lyrics, do you agree with them?
Do you think that if there were no countries (or nationalism or patriotism) or religion that the world would be a more peaceful place?
What about the part that says “Imagine all the people sharing all the world,” do you think that’s possible? Or are people just too greedy?
In general, what’s your opinion about those lyrics from the song “Imagine” by John Lennon?

My quick summarized opinion is, I think that maybe the world would be a little more peaceful if there were no countries, and if everybody just belonged to the same country - I think it would give everyone, everywhere a sense of having something in common. And maybe instead of Americans wanting to protect American, and Russians wanting to protect Russia, and Chinese wanting to protect China, and so on, everyone would just look out for the whole world. HOWEVER, I do love different cultures! And I love that the world has so many! So I probably wouldn’t like it very much if there was only one huge culture.
As far as religion goes, I think it has its positives and negatives. I don’t follow any particular religion (I love learning about them though – they’re so interesting!), I mostly just live by “The Golden Rule” (don’t do to others what you wouldn’t want done to yourself). I think that religion provides a lot of great morals and ideas. The only thing I can think of that is truly negative, is that with every religion, there are the extremists who don’t tolerate others opinions and views very well.
And I can’t imagine all the people in this world “sharing” everything – at least not right now.
Anyway…
I just really want to hear what others think

I think eventually if the human race is to be sucessful we must come together whether it be socially or politically or both... otherwise I fear that greed would cause humanity to destroy itself, Imagine people striving for new accomplishments without a big pay off being the drive but rather the betterment of mankind being the first and foremost reason for doing so. The world would definetely be a different place, and the history surrounding such notions is too fresh in everyone's minds to jump on a socialist or communist bandwagon and demonize it, without properly understanding it...
Although I do not know of something like this ever happening anytime soon.... that is just not the direction mankind has taken.... and the only way for such changes to happen is by reaction or change due to something drastic happening where going on the way we are just isn't feasible

Isn't that the goal of the "New World Order"?

This has been tried in such successful countries as the USSR, Cambodia, Yugoslavia etc. Those nations all collapsed on themselves. Ussually with much bloodshed. It is a nice thought, but unfornunately it just isn't realsitic.

If there were no COUNTRIES--

There's be no Swedish Meatballs---or French Toast---or Scotch Tape--or English Muffins--or Canadian Bacon---or Belgian Wafles---or Brazil Nuts. No Jamaican Rum---no Spanish omelettes, nor German Chocolate Cake, nor Swiss Bank Acounts.

There'd be no illegal immigration, because there'd be no immigration at ALL. There'd be no International House of Pancakes; nor would there be any international travel. No one would be a 'foreigner', nor would there be a Borders Book Store. No Mexican Restaurants, no Italian Opera....

Sounds like economoc chaos to me...

I think it has been unsuccessful because all of humanity was not doing it together.. if there is a scapegoat (the west in their cases) where the greedy can go to participate in greed... it bleeds the system that they are trying to create....
not to meantion having corrupt leaders manipulating it all as well...

It's not possible to have no countries, no "group", no varying cultures or people.

Peace means respect of each other's sovereignty and right to exist as a nation, a respect for borders. Having different countries is what gets peace started in the first place. A country gets too varied, too polarized and this results in civil war. The country splits, and each side leaves the other alone -- that results in peace for a while.

Nope - I don't agree with them -

If everyone was the same - acted the same - thought the same - it would be a boring world

No, for the same reasons we frown upon monopolies... they're often used to exert their power, not to benefit all.
