Oh, my.

The so-called 'conservatives' herein have been busy parroting the conservative party line about Cuba. Now, Senator Rand Paul has spoken, and he thinks opening relations, and trading, with Cuba is good.

Really?

How so differently than any other recent POTUS?

Specifically.

We hopped in bed with Stalin who intentionally killed more people than Hitler did in the camps. Our foreign policy is historically based on what its makers think would benefit the US, as misguided as many of those thoughts all too often are. 50+ years of our policy towards Cuba has contributed nothing to the US.

And that makes him different from any other politician how? Do you really believe there's been anyone in the White House in recent memory who sought that position based on nothing but altruism?

who is getting their revenge? Cuba? LMAO!!!

when the min wage in Cuba is 5 cents an hour and they have no basic rights, yeah they sure got their revenge on the U.S.A., WE are losing sleep since 1959....lol
I reckon they will have to do that.

Never forget that the Embargo is the best thing that happened to the Castro Caudillos. It really does not affect them much- Communism is supposed to be self-reliant and devoid of Capitalism- but it looms large in the world's imagination.

It gave the Castros the perfect excuse for the utter failings and terror of their government. The rest of the world, including most who would never want to live in Cuba, saw it as a David vs Goliath metaphore.

And that was fine so long as Cuba was bankrolled first by the USSR/Russian and then by Venezuela. Those days are coming to a close and Cuba needs something else. Selling girls to horny Canadian tourists is not going to make you Singapore.

The Castros are waving the White Flag. Let's take the opportunity.

Rand Paul Breaks With Rubio and Bush Over Cuba - NBC News

Well, they called Nixon all the same names Obama is getting now, for opening up relations to China.
Is China today, 40 years later, the same communist nation of the 70's?

And you guys think the GOP are haters. There is a new breed in town, that feels we are not the rulers of the world, but friends to all... and you will have no enemies to fight.

First, President Obama's term will be up in 2016! He will not be run, kicked out, etc out of office. Some people are all out 'ignorant'.

I was not born when the embargo was implemented. I learned the history behind the embargo and watched 'Scarface' (... laugh people). We need to move forward in resolving past ills, etc. Castro and his brother are at the end of there time. Social change will happen of its own accord once trade arrangements began, travel is restricted, tourism boost. I known Marriott, Hilton and other others are salivating. I hear the cruise lines are stating they should have port built within a year and add Cuba as destination?

I am thinking 1000s of jobs will be coming to the island! The people touring the island will be from countries with democratic societies. Cuba government /leadership will evolve to adjust accordingly.

Since I honestly don't have too much respect for the Cuban people( the ones who left are okay) living as they have under a bass ackwards repressive regime and never showing any effort to try to improve their situation, they deserve what they're going to get: Another screwing.
You have more respect for the people who left than the people that stayed and toughed it out?

Here is where the money would go in Cuber with free US-Cuba relations:

Average Cuban makes $20-$30 a month whether he/she is a doctor or a store worker. Only the hotel/tourism workers get the most money, but not because of wages, but because of tips.

Every Hotel stay: Castro would take that income in and wave to the US, thanks!
*Staying at a "casa particular" (rental), Castro gets some money, but the home owner get some money too, you live in squalor conditions for your stay.

Food Restaurants: Owner gets a percentage and the rest goes to the Castrated brothers as they wave at the US saying thanks.

Taxis- money goes to Castro.

*private cars that act as taxis- yes, money would go to that owner, but he runs the risk of being thrown in jail if caught providing that service.

Buying cigars at shops- Again Castro will be waving Thanks as you leave for the airport.
*buying cigars on black market- money would go to the hustlers and you get a sub-par product.

Beaches- Money to enter the beach goes to Castro, buying most things there, money to Castro.

Taking public transportation aka the Camel Bus: $ to Castro

So the benefit to all this is Castro.

Where would the US benefit? Where would the Cuban people benefit?
