Several speakers at the August 17 conference, including B4U-ACT director of operations Dr. Richard Kramer and conference keynote speaker Dr. Fred Berlin, of the Johns Hopkins University, have actively opposed sex offender notification laws.

“What purpose does calling someone a ‘pervert’ or ‘predator’ serve anyway, other than to express contempt and hatred?” Kramer wrote in a March 14, 2009 blog entry on the website ReformSexOffenderLaws.org. “How is this productive? It certainly doesn’t protect children. I would urge all SO [sex offender] activists to listen to their own message: Stop buying into and promoting false stereotypes. Stop demonizing a whole class of people, and start learning the facts.”

Berlin has similarly compared society’s reaction to pedophilia to that of homosexuality prior to the landmark 2003 Lawrence v. Texas decision that decriminalized sodomy.

B4U-ACT’s own website puts Berlin’s views front and center. “Just as has been the case historically with homosexuality,” he writes, “society is currently addressing the matter of pedophilia with a balance that is far more heavily weighted on the side of criminal justice solutions than on the side of mental health solutions.”

They're wrong. Children aren't mature enough to consent to sex. Therefore, anyone seeking to take advantage of children sexually is indisputably a predator.

Not surprising to me at all. Nambla the organization seeking acceptance for Man Boy sex used to march with the gays .. the gays parted thinking it would be better to gain acceptance first without Nambla , then they could work on acceptance on their own.. it is happening now and the people will again be asked to accept pedophilia as normal.

Thats not exactly what they are saying.

A pedophile simply has a sexial desire for children, and the argument being made is that having this desire is normal.. Not that the children should be allowed to be taken advantage of.

Is this a Catholic conference, FLDS conference, or a conference of televangelists (like Tony "Puberty Is Consent" Alamo)?

And yet the biggest pedophile organization on the planet is the Roman Catholic Church.

But they're able to consent to murder?

Actually, if all children (by which I assume you mean under the magic number of 18) are unable to consent to sex then why are liberals so adamant in passing out free condoms to children in public schools?

That's not true but it sounds good as an emotional argument doesn't it?

Most those Catholic priests were guilty of having sexually inappropriate relations with boys ages 13 to 17. In another thread a 17 year old boy knocked out and beat to death an El Paso cop that was a Marine war veteran in Iraq (and Afghanistan too I think).

I was an alter boy for a priest that would later admit to molesting a boy. He was friends with the boy's family and used to take the kid out (fishing or something I think). I also know another priest that was accused but found not guilty in secular court but for whatever reason the court of the Catholic Church found him guilty. Which is odd. The secular courts find him not guilty but the Catholic Church finds him guilty and lists him as a sex offender priest.

The Catholic Church kept (keeps) exceptional records. That ironically it what drew so many lawyers with hard-ons to it. Because the Church maintained written, detailed, evidence longer than most American corporations. Also, the Church run by college educated men (you have to have 4 years college education to be a priest--and then 4 or 5 years seminary education) did something monumentally stupid, they listened to psychologists and psychiatrists. Back then those mental professionals thought all that was needed was therapy.

So, it's ironic the Church is being attacked for listening to scientists. Part of the problem is most the Bishops are not educated in science but in theology, so, they often can't tell when non-scientific biases are motivating conclusions in science papers.

Harvard is a predominately leftist institution and environment and it's one of the most prestigious universities in the world. John Hopkins is a prestigious university as well. You can't blame the Catholic Church for this conference or these professors and professionals involved appeals to "science."

The Catholic Church has nothing to do with this conference. However, you mentioned the Catholic Church to appeal to peoples emotions. Just like if you are pro-gay marriage you will appeal to people's emotions.

From the article:

Quote:
Researchers from Harvard University, the Johns Hopkins University, the University of Louisville, and the University of Illinois will be among the panelists at the conference.

“The first thing they do is to get the public to divest from thinking of what the offender does criminally, to thinking of the offender’s emotional state, to think of him as thinking of his emotional state, [and] to empathize and sympathize,” Reisman said. “You don’t change the nation in one fell swoop; you have to change it by conditioning.

What statements I do agree with in the article is that it does little good in demonizing pedophiles per se.

Especially if the person has never touched a child but has this attraction (that's no more their choice than homosexual and heterosexual attractions). If they seek help before hand, and they go through therapy and through whatever means are able to simply marry a woman, bother no kids inappropriately, or if they remain celibate, then what is the problem?

Also, the term "predator" is meant to appeal to peoples emotions.

They ought really start teaching in high schools and public high schools how to differentiate between a persuasive argument (appeal to emotions) from a logical argument (appeal to reason). But that would actually help make young minds more critical thinkers and less vulnerable to indoctrination from the liberals (or conservatives) and adults with social and political agendas can't have that.

Quote:
Reisman warns that declassifying pedophilia as a mental illness could result in the repeal of child-protection statutes because the law always follows the input of psychiatry. She points to psychiatry’s normalization of sadomasochism, exhibitionism, and homosexuality as precedents.

“[i]t has been carried from the university to the law, going back to Kinsey,” Reisman said.

And other conference panelists such as Jacob Breslow, a graduate student in gender research at the London School of Economics, plan to discuss how political activists can exploit removing pedophilia from the next edition of the DSM for their own ends.

“Allowing for a form of non-diagnosable minor attraction is exciting, as it creates a sexual or political identity by which activists, scholars and clinicians can better understand Minor Attracted Persons,” Breslow writes...

LSE--the London School of Economics--is one of the most prestigious universities on earth. It's well regarded as a social science institute of learning and many world leaders have graduated from LSE including a U.S. President.

And so that makes NAMBLA ok? Child rapists are child rapists. None of it is justified or "normal". Are you citing one wrong to justify another, or just taking the opportunity to take a shot at Catholics?
