Many years ago, a co-worker of mine lost her apartment to fire due to the stupidity of a downstairs neighbor. The Salvation Army stepped right up and helped her out, very much. This is a religious organization, so tough cookies if you don't like it.
I'll paraphrase someone from another thread about the clown in the WH and the wedding at the golf course: Pick something worthy to be outraged about. Crying about the Salvation Army, that helps so many people, does NOT help your cause.
I had a similar experience with an old girlfriend who lost her apartment due to an electrical fire. The Salvation Army helped her out beyond what I could do. Whenever I see the kettle, I always throw in my loose change. Nearly EVERYTHING they receive goes to those in need. Unlike the OP's fantasies, they DON"t ask you what your sexual perversions might be. They just help those in need.
In this season of giving and seeing the bell ringers of the Salvation Army outside of stores, let us all remember that the Salvation Army at it's heart, is still anti-gay and still in it's approach, a Christian organization. For those of us who are secular and non religious, it's still disheartening to know that many don't know how just how this organization really thinks of those in the gay community. I for one will never donate to this organization.
Of course; they are like most Christian still see it has a sin. Why would anyone think that changed.
I think their gripe with Christians is that we refuse to REDEFINE marriage to include 2 men or 2 women or a man and his dog or a woman and her horse or a man and a 5 year old. They hate us because we accept the Biblical definition of marriage, between 1 man and 1 woman.
I thought California was the home of secularism and we saw what happened when gay marriage was put to a vote. Since they haven't put it on a ballot since that I know of. Why delude yourself is my point.

I'm embarrassed to say that I used to get quite annoyed with them. They used to dress in funny uniforms, played their instruments off key and were just plain weird (to me anyway). Not to mention their bell ringing gave me a headache. I've changed my tune after seeing a few disasters up close and personal. They are some of the first ones in and help everybody equally. If their religion doesn't approve of same sex marriage, that's their business.
More screeching from the perpetually aggrieved. If you are ever in need please make certain that those who help you approve of where you jam your genitals.
Why; a article by yahoo just pointed out that in giving to charity nine of top ten states were in so called bible belt. The other home of the Mormons. Not surprising with the free stuff secular part of society. What is disgusting is people committing welfare fraud; faking disability that robs those with a real disability of help.
