Its the French what do you expect; they long ago surrender freedom of speech. Really it started in the mid 60's when people started calling for violence. They attack the speech and not the violent people as always. Its called civilized behavior which is getting less common.
The French Constitution and the American Constitution are quite different from one another.
And France has always had a more restrictive view of freedom of speech. In part, from their desire to keep their language "pure", their laws have always been far more restrictive.
So, no, the incidents you've cited could not happen here.
No, but French laws that were originally based on keeping the language pure gave the French government much more power to regulate free speech. Our Constitution and our laws do not provide such precedent for laws restricting American free speech.
No, but it doesn`t seem to take much precedent either.

It all went haywire when Precedent law, replaced Constitutional law.
Legislating from the bench, began.
Laws were changed by one man judges, not legislation.
I wouldn't call Europe weak but cautious, maybe to a fault. After all, WWII was fought on their soil, not ours so there are far more reminders of the devastation in Europe then we have in the US. Plus we have a pretty big ocean seperating us from the Middle East, which Europe does not.

They are wussies plain and simple. They are scared of their own shadows over there.
