May we make ourselves worthy to carry on his dream and create the love community.
Reagan was gifted at passionately reading anything that Peggy Noonan put in front of his face. But it's not what he expressed in public or in his bigoted heart. When asked by the press if he thought that MLK was a communist, he said that the records would show, instead of defending MLK or denying the accusation. A quick research shows that the House voted 338-90 for the holiday and 78-22 in the Senate. These were veto proof majorities. Reagan had no choice.

I just saw a commercial for the MLK Weekend Couch Sale....so apparently this holiday has turned into another consumerism holiday.

MLK was a communist and an adulterer. What's wrong with stating fact? Is this man so idolized today no one can say anything other than sing his praises?

There already is a longstanding tradition associated with the holiday.

Wish I could. I work for a school district that doesn't acknowledge MLK Day. Although the students have off, it is an in-service day for us (the staff). I have to be in at 8:00 to attend a seminar.

It could be the day to start an illicit affair with bonus points for becoming a babydaddy/babymama on that day. Or protest and criticize the gubbermint, declaring you're a victim. Or burn down your own neighborhood.

I like the barrel chaining cited above and would endorse that!

I believe many view this as "a day of service", how many actually practice this who knows....

Or behave like a hateful bigot. Oh wait, that every day for a right-winger.

The left praises Clinton for signing the Welfare Reform bill. After 3 tries he signed it kicking and screaming.

He signed it, he gets the credit.

Reagan signed the bill. He gets the credit.

You can't have it both ways.
