I know this isn't necessarily Political or Controversial, but I thought it was interesting. According to the Times, this test of problem solving sheds light on political decisions and public policy.

So, take the test and tell us how you do. Take the test before reading any of the posts below so nothing is given away.

Well, I went with doubling. I knew it would work and didn't bother to consider any other solutions.

If I was in solitary confinement for a few years I bet I could have come up with a few more.

Technically if you went with doubling each number you were correct as well.

Not really because 1, 2, 3 is correct as well without doubling. So you have to find the rule that would determine all right answers.

I got it right. I kept trying until I got noes so I could make sure I had patterns to compare. But both my teenagers got it wrong, and they are really good at math. They both tried a couple, saw they were getting a yeses and then put in that it was doubling.

My assumption was that it was a number raised to an incrementing power.

Your correct my bad....

The reward for the effort wasn't worth my time to keep trying all possible computations to verify my guesstimate.
