While I largely agree with you, I don't think that the US bears the sole or even primary responsibility for extremism in the Middle East. I strongly believe that the culture and political systems that dominate in that part of the world bear the bulk of the responsibility for extremism. The socio/political/economic systems are extremely rigid, and that kind of rigidity breeds resentment and frustration. Because the culture is theocratic in nature, religion is the framework through which that resentment and frustration are expressed, and religious extremism is the result. The West certainly bears some responsiblity, since it was the West that allocated power in designing the modern Middle East. But it's more like a Perfect Storm, with the right conditions coming together in an inexorable culmination of energy and violence.
I wasn't saying we were solely responsible for Islamic extremism. We certainly played a part in making the ideology more open, for instance by funding the Taliban when they were fighting the Soviets, but the ideology existed even before then. It's existed for a while, and has since risen to power through a myriad of various events, some of which involving the US and the rest of the West, some of which not.
But ISIS is primarily our fault. ISIS's borrowed ideology isn't on us, but the formation of this extremely radical group is due to our short sighted thinking in Iraq. We handled the situation poorly and left an opening for this group to fill.
I'm always amused how some people create a fictitious "left" as if it's some monolithic entity that subscribes to a prescribed set of beliefs that each and every member of the group holds.
Don't worry, Bamster has ISIS and Al-Qaeda "on the run" and there is no such thing as a terrorist, only "armed insurgents."
I can't help but remember each time the media plays Obama's comments, he stated that ISIL is not a state and not Islamic, and yet every freaking time, he refers to them as ISIL (the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.)

The notion of creating an Islamic caliphate goes back much further than the 1980s
I hear what your saying. In reality, is this CHIT ever going to completely stop. I see this escalating. Appears these people seem to think they have the upper hand. Time to teach them a lesson!
What if it has not gotten out of hand yet, how much worse can it get.
Bad enough to be very well referenced by history later on...........for a long time to come.
Or as he replied this past weekend, "Isolated incidents" when asked if we were at war with radical Islam.
Add "isolated incidents" to "junior varsity," "workplace violence" and other awkward euphemisms from this admin. Interestingly the Nixon admin also had a fondness for these kinds of euphemisms. Boca Raton News - Google News Archive Search
An invasion was an 'incursion,' statements found to be false were said to be 'inoperative,' etc. There are some interesting parallels between the Obama and Nixon admins.

Agreed. I was a little kid when Nixon resigned but; word was he was a LOT like Obama from what I've heard and read.
