To those whom much has been given much is expected, and I expect more from the Boomers than what we've currently gotten. At this moment in time, they have the opportunity to do something truly magnanimous. They should give up Social Security. They should lead the charge to pass a bill that anyone born between the years of 1945 and 1965 should not get paid any Social Security benefits. This would save the program for their children and grandchildren, and for once, they wouldn't be acting like a swarm of locusts laying waste to America's wealth before it can be enjoyed by future generations.

I also think conservatives who hate big government should also choose to not get their benefits as a protest regardless of when they were born.

What do you think? Good idea?
Tell you what, I'll walk away now. You take what I put in and I'll take what I would pay in and invest it but you can't tax my returns or draws. I have paid in for 30 years the last 15 at the max. I'll still out perform the amount I would get from SS with only investing 10 more years. It's a freaking Ponzi scheme

You do NOT know for certain if that is going to happen or not.

When many of us boomers were still working W. Bush tried to "fix" the SS system so what you "predict" does NOT happen and was rebuked by the dems.

I am NOT trying to makes this political but, politics does come into play.

Should they system be "fixed"? Damn right but, as they say it is the 3rd rail which many politicians, mostly dems, will NOT touch.

You would be surprised to find out how many of us boomers did NOT want to be part of the SS system tiu, had NO choice.

We do NOT want future generations to be "screwed" over, so your disdain for us is, IMO, very juvenile and won't do damn thing to help.

My suggestion to you and YOUR generation is to elect politicians who ARE FOR "fixing" the system and NOT on whining about us.
The "Third Rail" of politics is now owned by Republicans. You wont find a Republican anywhere who wants to cut Medicare. They will soon own SS as well as a slew of benefits coming down from our wars over seas.

The money in the SSTF belongs to the boomers. We funded it so that Social Security would be viable for our retirement. If you want a SS retirement get busy and quit whining about how tough your life is.

Alternatively, you could just give up all of the things that boomers have developed: cell phones, computer, Internet, heart drugs, laparoscopic surgery, and a per capita GDP that is three time the size of the 1960s economy.

You meant SOME Boomers right? And some are still 10+ years away from collecting a dime. But, that fact doesn't fit in neatly with your rant so you ignore it. In fact, MOST Boomers are still busy working and paying for other generations to receive their benefits. Why do you have an issue with them doing the same when they are eligible? Oh wait, I forgot you hate all Boomers. Too bad for you they will collect what they're owed.

"who wants to cut Medicare." I know it is tough sometimes but, THIS thread is about Social Security. Try to saty on topic.

Beyond that I haven't a clue what you are talking about.

I think the stupid F**kers that vote for big government should shut their f**king mouths when someone wants the government to keep its end of the deal.

The government forced us into this system. It took wages away from me for 40 years. I contributed and my employer did too... with money that could have been paid directly to me.

Baby boomers busted their asses to get what they have. More people should try that.

If a politician even brings up the idea of phasing out social security the big government idiots start fear mongering.

If you don't want people to collect social security cut the program. How f**cking hard is that to figure out.

Yet you same SOBs want to let the third world immigrate to this nation and collect from the system. You people are insane.

Social Security should have never been started.

I disagree pretty strongly with WestCobb, but come on now with this specific point, the SSTF is a pile of IOUs from the government to the government, it has zero true value because redeeming it just shuffles money from one federal government account to another.

True, but that's all a boomer needs to feel good about impoverishing future generations so they will be comfortable in their old age. It's all about them. Always has been, always will be.

" It's all about them" Isn't that the same stance YOU are taking? It's ALL about YOU.

WE paid in, we are now collecting and you want US to forfeit what we are due so you can have it.
