Republicans in the U.S. Congress who came to power pledging tight-fisted budgeting are going on a tax-cut and spending binge that would boost federal deficits by a half-trillion dollars.

In part, they’re doing it by sidestepping their own warnings about the perils of ringing up even more national debt. Instead, they’re choosing tax cuts and the promise of long-term savings -- and some of the Tea Party members who came to Congress on the pay-as-you-go promise are going along.
How's that 'fiscal conservatism' workin out for ya'?

Not really news, the GOP has always been willing to spend like a drunken sailor when it suits their agenda.

The GOP is different from Dems only in where they spend our loot.
Hey o.p. are you a small gov fiscal conservative?

So funny reading responses critical of GOP spending from the dems, as if they have some ethical or moral high ground to judge.

The Repubs are not, nor have they been, fiscal conservatives, they simply want to spend and lose money on different things, Repubs that claim otherwise are either brainwashed or liars.

I did not see anyone support the Dem sending habits, funny since any time I point out the same sort of thing on threads started by Cons they scream that it is an attempt to change the topic and not for balance purposes. So while the Dems are also in question do try and stick to the topic did you have anything to add to that?

So start a thread on that, oh by the way; claiming your guys are less guilty is not a good excuse or argument but is an excellent example of what is wrong with the mindset of Americans these days.

Over half that projected, theoretical amount is from eliminating the estate tax and making permanent the federal deduction for state and local taxes paid. None of those things are about spending.

Then comes the $141 billion to make permanent the Mediwelfare reimbursement rules, and extending the CHIP. OK, don't pass those two, and Republicans are baby killers about 15 seconds after the vote is held. That's the clear lesser of two legislative evils for the GOP. Vote yea, and you're accused of being too spendy. Vote nay and you hate kids, old people and the sick & infirm. Electorally, you can survive the former a lot easier than the latter.

But those are both spending that already exists, and neither is being increased dramatically, just extended or entrenched.

And everything else mentioned in the article are proposals, most of which Obama is already promising to veto.

Not defending the GOP, because they are just as much oligarchic scumbags as their Democrat twins, but the title and theme of the thread is disingenuous.

Republicans go on a 1/2 Trillion $$ spending binge
What have your dems done lately to curtail spending? Thats right, the difference (in practice) between the two parties is mostly superficial, but dont let your ideological blind spots stop you from recognizing that.

Reading these replies is akin to Stalin bemoaning Hitlers body count lol

In our worst deficit years in our history, the Dems controlled the Presidency, House and Senate....this is true on largest total deficit and largest deficit as a % of GNP. Since Republicans have taken power in the House and now the Senate, the deficit has gone down. So OP's comments are just talk with no meat. I do wish they would push to get it down even more.
