The Catholic Church is supposed to facilitate and spread the word of Christ, not get involved in political issues.
I like this Pope in many regards, however his delving into politics is troubling, as Christ was apolitical. His socialistic political leanings are troubling as well, as charity and compassion comes from individuals, not through state compulsion.

But of course for the American right they do not, and they also feel a need to cowtow before "God's chosen" no matter what they are doing. Palestine, a made up name for a bunch of cobbled together people, was never a "country". The region has been ruled by one entity or another since time immemorial.
