The House voted to repeal COOL on meat. COOL stands for "Country of Origin".
Another win for big Ag as they buy meat from other countries.

And don't forget we'll be getting chicken from China which you'll never know about because it won't be labeled.

The international community wins over Americans who want to know where their food comes from.

House panel votes to repeal country-origin meat labeling law
A House committee has voted to get rid of labels on packages of meat that say where the animals were born, raised and slaughtered.
..
The law was initially written at the behest of northern U.S. ranchers who compete with the Canadian cattle industry. It also was backed by some consumer advocates who say it helps shoppers know where their food comes from. The supporters have called on the U.S. government to negotiate with Canada and Mexico to find labels acceptable to all countries.

But many in the U.S. meat industry — including meat processors who buy animals from abroad — have called for a repeal of the law, which they have fought for years, including unsuccessfully in federal court.
..
The bill would go beyond just the muscle cuts of red meat that were covered under the WTO case, also repealing country-of-origin labeling for poultry, ground beef and ground pork.

Just another victory for the free market. Loss of American jobs, but the price of hamburger will drop. Wont it?

No matter. More money for the managerial class. Poor and working people are another story for another time.

I've already called and emailed all my federal and state representatives on this one.

I'm a big free trader but this is bull****. I want to know where my damn food comes from before I buy it. Sorry I can afford a buck a pound more for USA food and I want to buy it.

If I want to buy beef from Canada then I will buy it but at least give me a choice.

We should tell the WTO to **** off and flood our markets with our own beef.

Most people don't give a crap though.

I agree 100 %

The reality is that most people do NOT care as long as it's a penny cheaper. Even the ones who can afford dollars more per lb.

Waste of ink. Cheers for the House.

This is just like GMOs. Companies can still label Produced in the USA if they wish.

Get off the partisan horse here. This is international bullying by the WTO who say they will impose strict tariffs on our food because we have COOL labeling.

This is the fledging NWO displaying their increasing power over countries.

Stop making excuses for the GOP. You darn well know they would gladly repeal any labeling because it "inconveniences" business. Stop making excuses with WTO this and NWO that, they have NO power. They can't do anything by themselves without Congress SAYING SO. Put the blame solely where it belongs, with the anti-consumer GOP

What is anti-consumer about not requiring labeling? I don't need my meat labeled. I do appreciate fat and sodium content labels but would never wish to force my preferences on the public at large.

Keeping costs down is pro-consumer.

I want my meat labeled. I also don't want to inhale smokers' second hand smoke in public. Your rights end when mine begin. Since this is about food safety, my right to know where my meat comes from trumps your right to remain ignorant
