It really depends on what part of Pittsburgh is being discussed.

Homestead for example is depressed, even though they just spent tens of millions of dollars in credits creating the development project there, but when the credits are paid back in a few years, the area will have tons of money to invest into the community.

Other areas like Shadyside, Squirrel Hill etc is booming, but parts of downtown is hurting and major retail buildings, just developed about 10 years ago, are being converted into housing in order to try to encourage them from not being vacant.

Its a turnover period for Pittsburgh, they did though boom for a period of time, their problem is substaining that economic growth which they cant do because the politicians dont have the backbone to fight public perception anymore.

I'm sure you've heard of it, Detroit. A city that's been under democrat rule for decades? Why didn't Democrats do a good job of diversifying Detroits economy away from auto manufacturing.
Two words Auto Industry.

Liberalism works well as long as you can keep too many leeches from latching on and taking without contributing anything. Denver & Seattle work well, Detroit and Baltimore are very blue but don't work.

And now they voted in a "tax the chit out of em" governor.
OMG! Potholes! What northern city doesn`t have potholes? And where in the U.S. are there no mall shootings?

Let's have an in-depth discussion on this and start with the housing bubble and crash.

Do you want to start, or should I?

Do you want to pretend that the massive spending and policies pushed by the Democrats over the last 25% of Bushs tenure (when the crash started) never happened? Do you want to pretend that the country didn't start to turn around until AFTER the Democrats lost control of Congress and couldn't continue their massive spending spree?

Both parties suck and I can't understand why anyone would defend either of them.

But spend trillions on wars, all Dems did was spend a fraction of this on Social benefits. You spend 17 trillion on a war, you cant spend a couple on impinging the quality of life for all Americans.

How much money does it take to ensure that no American lives in Poverty ? Now compare that to what was spent on Iraq and what are the results ?
