I think its a good investment... Musk is pushing the envelope... I would suspect that most of the government subsidies is in his solar panel company and Tesla... I am pretty sure the space program is self-funded... Tesla is a great car and when the Model 3 comes out, the investment will be worth it because its forcing our dinosaur car manufacturers produce something worthwhile... The problem with Solar City is state governments effectively ban them from doing business in various states who are controlled by the state's power grid companies... I think any money Elon Musk gets evens the competition... This is one investment that I can agree with Obama on...

Tesla; where working class people help rich people buy an expensive car. But that's typical of government programs.

I doubt you will ever see a Tesla or solar panels in a trailer park. Green energy is all about working class people subsidizing nice things for rich people.

Musk receiving governing funds may not be a decision I politically agree with, but give the man his due. He is making the future possible and is a once in a generation talent. People like that push society forward and need our backing. Not everyone can do what Musk does.

So much of the US economy is fake.....pumped-up by government largess. Housing, stock market, phony green jobs/companies, irrational and reckless personal spending......on and on.

So hey, why not grab some of the $$$$$$$$.

Sticking 6000 cell phone batteries in a kit car where the end result is something almost nobody can afford, isn't making any real future come true. Neither is re-creating rocket technology that existed 50 years ago.

It's a huge ripoff of the taxpayer and a very sad statement of the lack of a national industrial policy that once existed in the USA. It's all snake oil salesmen & political hacks these days.

These American corporations aren't interested in the free market. That's always been a load of bull. They only yell "free market" when they don't want government interference.

Tesla is supposedly building the new battery plant not too far from me up in Tucson, and of course, Tucson had to promise them the world, no taxes, and all the state's firstborn children. Raytheon threatens to leave Tucson every so many years if the city doesn't pucker up and kiss their asses too.

Corporations want handouts, and Americans by and large think they should get them.
