It's a knowledge test, has nothing to do with intelligence. Unless you were a true imbecile anyone can divide 9 by 3 but if no one ever showed you how then you may not know.

...would be difficult to make. Almost all academic tests measure both knowledge and intelligence. The ability to aquire the former depends on the latter.

Of course it's Kimba Wood--ex-Clinton baggage and ex-Playboy bunny.

The test-takers failed because they received a heavy dose of stupid from their inner city schools that refuse to change a failing model. This way, these "teachers" can continue to do the same.

Heaven forbid we expect pilots to be able to fly a plane, or firefighters to have the physical prowess to go up flights of stairs carrying heavy equipment or down them carrying people they've rescued.

Also, much of that test includes basics such as reading comprehension, writing, and math. Instead of fingering the test, people should be outraged that these teaching candidates are unable to not only pass the test, but also can't demonstrate proficiency in the subject matter.

Yet another reason to send your kids to private schools.

No wonder the traditional public school system is failing its mission.

Thanks, Dems!
We are no longer a serious country.

Wow!

Cops, Fireman, Teachers. No standards.

How long before they dumb down the Bar Exam and Medical Boards?

Well, close, I've read some law schools are considering doing away with the LSAT, which is the standardized entrance exam for law schools and I've read there is a big push to make the healthcare delivery system more diverse, particularly among physicians. I think it's a worthy goal if you can do it without lowering standards, but...

This is the standard apparently:

"But the test was found to fail minority teaching candidates at a higher rate than white candidates. According to Friday’s decision, written by Judge Kimba M. Wood of Federal District Court in Manhattan, the pass rate for African-American and Latino candidates was between 54 percent and 75 percent of the pass rate for white candidates. Once it was established that minority applicants were failing at a disproportionately high rate, the burden shifted to education officials to prove that the skills being tested were necessary to do the job; otherwise, the test would be ruled discriminatory."

And people wonder why public education in the US is falling behind.
This uses disparate impact theory which in a nutshell says that if results are different by race then they are racially biased.

This "theory" is garbage and is in the process of being made both illegal and also unconstitutional.

Hey, if someone can prove that identical applications (except race) are being denied say....an apartment due to solely ethnicity then sure...that's discrimination.

However, if black applicants (due to historical racism) have a higher incidence of credit issues or criminal records etc. which shows a disparate impact then that is not discrimination.

I'm a little surprised that the NY teachers exam is having this conundrum seeing as how firefighters or police in NY or NJ won a lawsuit not so long ago for being passed over for promotion due to being white and that they couldn't pass them because it would create disparate impact.

Real discrimination exists in the world. Creating more discrimination when you just don't like the results isn't fixing the real problem and often isn't finding where the real discrimination is occurring.

Odd how teacher, firemen, police, IQ and college entrance exams are all racist. Are there any tests that aren't racist?
