How sad.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Carrie Jean Melvin was in love and working two side jobs as a waitress and bartender while she pursued her dream of becoming an actress and writer in Hollywood.
The 30-year-old California woman's life was cut short Sunday when she was executed by an unknown assailant with a shotgun blast to the back of her head as she walked near Sunset Boulevard with her boyfriend -- baffling investigators who say the film school graduate had no enemies.
Melvin and her boyfriend, both originally from central California, were strolling along McCadden Place shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday when a man -- described by police as African American and in his mid-20's -- walked up behind Melvin and shot her once in the head before jumping into the driver's seat of a dark sedan. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two things..
Her murder was an obvious hit. Anyone, anywhere, can be hit by anybody. This wasn't random. Her name was on a bullet. This nonsense about her having "no enemies" is obviously bunk. Investigators just can't find the motive.
Secondly, "Hollywood dream?" Hollywood was a far worse part of the city 35 years ago than it is now...but even with its fairly recent affluence, it remains a working class section of Los Angeles. It's still a long way from the "Hollywood" that people normally associate that name with. It's still a tough place in parts.
Sad story and I am sorry the woman got murdered, but why is this in the Politics and Other Controversies section? What is controversial about this story? This should be in the Current Events section.
Cops and no one else are 'baffled', that's just PC response. Without any evidence to the contrary, the working assumption is the motive is racial and to kill a white person. Polar bear hunting. Do you think anyone would be 'baffled' by a white male shooting a black person in the back of the head?
In the same circumstance? Of course.
The correlation is a white male shooting a black woman in the same manner...not a black man.
Polar bear hunting. SMH...*SIGH*
You've got one hell of an imagination.
It may have been a mistaken identity hit: About 18 years ago I was attacked and beat up in Escondido CA while delivering Pizza, it was assumed to be a "let's rob a pizza guy deal". It was not until 5 years later that it turned out that the responsible, stable 55 year old driver with 3 kids that ALWAYS was closing driver on Fridays and asked me to sub that night in reality owed Ceasars Palace in Vegas $55000 and my attackers were actually sent to send him a message.
My point is maybe the attacker thought they were hitting someone else.
People do not "stroll" in that neighborhood, (which is off Sunset - not in the middle of the tourist/club areas) at 10 p.m. And gang bangers are not driving up to that part of L.A. hoping to find a white couple "strolling". This one has "boyfriend knows more than he's saying" written all over it.
Exactly. Polar bear hunting, knockout game... this is likely just an extreme version of what is a very common phenomena - blacks hurting whites for fun.
