The first flag to fly over the Continental Congress in 1775 was called the Grand Union flag or the "Jack and Stripes". A flag with 13 alternating red and white stripes with the Union Jack (crosses of St Andrew and St George) of the time in the upper left quarter (the union). Similar to the flags of Australia an New Zealand with todays Union Jack. In 1775 the Continental Congress of the 13 colonies still swore allegiance to his Majesty King George III.
If history had turned out a bit differently this proud flag might still be flying over a British America stretching from Sea to Shining Sea.
Posters are desperately seeking some sort of equivalency between Confederate flags and symbols and other flags and symbols in a desperate attempt for legitimacy.
We are well past the point of simple desperation, this has become pathological.
The confederate flag wasn't considered racist in the 1970's,80's or 90's, even though the KKK and other hate groups had flown it for years before that.
It kinda was. It was just that casual racism was so much more acceptable.
The only British flags I have seen flying in this country are at the embassy and at historical sites.
I did see an expat neighbor put out the Union jack as well as the Stars and Stripes last July 4th. A bit confused on the concept, but clearly no ill intent.

True, but even more sadly, the OP is trying to make the giant leap that PEOPLE are being restricted from flying either flag. While it might be considered un-PC to fly one flag or the other, there is no law (to my knowledge) preventing people from flying them.
Businesses have stopped marketing them because they are free to choose, and have decided they don't make good business sense to sell. (Free choice)
SC decided at the state level to take it down, but was not dictated by any federal law (State rights)
People are voicing their opinions for or against (freedom of speech).
To my knowledge, you are free to fly the confederate battle flag, the union jack, or the nazi flag if you want. It may be met with opinions, objections, and judgements, but nobody is restricting your rights.
OP is either disingenuous or doesn't understand what they are posting about.
