That's so unfair. Reagan would never trade sophisticated weapons to Iran for hostages, he gave them to Iran to "foster better relations." The hostages were just a token of appreciation and a recognition that Reagan was a tough old guy/leader of the most powerful nation in the world.

Reagan (archival): In spite of the wildly speculative and false stories of arms for hostages and alleged ransom payments, we did not, repeat, did not, trade weapons or anything else for hostages. Nor will we.

Bill Plante (archival): The record shows that every time an American hostage was released there had been a major shipment of arms just before that. Are we all to believe that is just a coincidence?

The Iranians did everything they could after 9/11 to extend an olive branch. We spit in their faces.

Are we as Americans so arrogant that we think we can dictate friendship when WE want it instead of treating people fairly on a regular basis?

Iran just made a deal with an enemy and it should turn out pretty good for them

Interesting point.
"In the aftermath of the Sept. 11 attacks, Tehran offered to help Washington overthrow the Taliban and establish a new political order in Afghanistan. But in his 2002 State of the Union address, President Bush announced that Iran was part of an "axis of evil," thereby scuttling any possibility of leveraging tactical cooperation over Afghanistan into a strategic opening.

... the Iranian Foreign Ministry sent Washington a detailed proposal for comprehensive negotiations to resolve bilateral differences. The document acknowledged that Iran would have to address concerns about its weapons programs and support for anti-Israeli terrorist organizations. It was presented as having support from all major players in Iran's power structure, including the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei...

...Unfortunately, the administration's response was to complain that the Swiss diplomats who passed the document from Tehran to Washington were out of line.

Finally, in October 2003, the Europeans got Iran to agree to suspend enrichment in order to pursue talks that might lead to an economic, nuclear and strategic deal. But the Bush administration refused to join the European initiative, ensuring that the talks failed."

It was a proposal from Iran for a broad dialogue with the United States, and the fax suggested everything was on the table -- including full cooperation on nuclear programs, acceptance of Israel and the termination of Iranian support for Palestinian militant groups.

But top Bush administration officials, convinced the Iranian government was on the verge of collapse, belittled the initiative. Instead, they formally complained to the Swiss ambassador who had sent the fax with a cover letter certifying it as a genuine proposal supported by key power centers in Iran, former administration officials said.
In 2003, U.S. Spurned Iran's Offer of Dialogue
After the 9/11 attacks, the situation changed. According to Kenneth Pollack, a former CIA intelligence analyst on the Middle East, while members of the sixplus-two group, such as Russia and Pakistan, opposed a U.S. invasion of Afghanistan, Iran supported the plan. Officials from the United States and Iran began meeting outside the six-plus-two forum to develop a plan to topple the Taliban. These meetings became known as the Geneva Contact Group, and although the Germans, Italians and the United Nations provided some political cover for these discussions, the group’s focus was U.S.-Iran cooperation on Afghanistan.18 Iran not provided reliable intelligence regarding the Taliban, it arrested and deported hundredsof Al-Qaeda and Taliban fighters who had crossed into the country for sanctuary.19

I would think that if your "enemy" is on the road to developing a nuclear weapon, a deal to keep them from doing so would be the bloody obvious thing to do.

Even after giving Iran everything they want and not even asking them to return the 4 American prisoner they are holding the Iranian leader makes this statement.

Nuclear deal will not change Iran's relations with U.S.: supreme leader

So when will Obama and Kerry learn that giving someone everything they want does not obligate them to like you.
As Muslims, they believe any deal struck with non-believers is null and void.

They will do what they want only now they have money.

The Iranian regime works mostly, but not always, by proxy. From Iraq (where they were responsible for hundreds of American deaths) to Assad to Hezbullah to Hamas to Yemen. The Revolutionary Guards themselves are active in fighting for Assad and training Hezbullah. The regime has sent billions in arms to the terror gangs and war criminals of the region: Hezbullah, Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, the butcher Assad. The army of Hezbullah is in effect part of the Iranian military. Lebanon is Iranian-occupied.

Agents of Iran are also in Yemen, Bahrain, and Afghanistan. Recently they were caught in acts of terrorism in India, Georgia, Thailand, and Azerbaijan and Nepal, Cyprus, Nigeria, And Bulgaria (where they successfully committed a massacre). High Iranian officials and former officials are wanted by Interpol for mass murder in Argentina.

I don't understand how antipathy toward the US on the part of some people leads to defending such a despicable regime.

So what did you expect? Did you actually think that making a deal is making everything all Kissy and we all sit at the campfire all cozy eating "Smores?"

I can't blame Iran a bit. I wouldn't like you either, if you backed my enemy, Iraq, and sold them chemicals to make Nerve Gas that they used on the Iranian people. Yep, would actually hate you for helping kill thousands of my citizens.

Why do you think Iran wants Nukes in the first place? Because they don't trust us, and saw what we did to Iraq, an old friend of ours. They want to make sure it doesn't happen to them.

Bull.... Obama has done what he should have done. Made a deal to slow the development down. We are not the rulers of the Universe, and can not dictate what other Countries can or can not do, unless we are willing to go to War, and this Country is NOT going to go along with another useless Middle East War.

Israel will defend Israel, and the US will help. If God was going to do it, they would not need their "Iron Dome" or help from us.

We have a President who is not letting GOD influence his decisions abroad nor here, that need to be made as President. God is not a part of Government, and never should be.
