I live in the purple state of Ohio. People are all over the board around here.

Keep in mind that liberals in Texas are actually pretty conservative by comparison to other states.

Guess again. In Seattle, we keep getting these Texas refugees. I don't know anyone in Seattle that would ever want to live in Texas but we have an endless stream of Texans who then seem surprised that Seattle is so liberal. Yes, yes it is. And it was liberal before you got here.

Madison is well known for its leftism, so I really stick out as a libertarian (especially an anarchist one), but it usually doesn't affect me anymore than anywhere else I've lived. I just assume my views are different than anyone I'm talking to, so my strategy is usually to find common ground and then give them a different perspective to think about. I'm very aware of how my ideas might be misunderstood.

I actually got into a political debate with a feminist/gun control/big government law student, and it was surprisingly productive. You just have to be respectful and not push too hard. Just present your logic and let them decide for themselves.

I enjoy telling progressive that they are wrong, so I stay in the San Francisco Bay Area.

On a more serious note, family and work keep me here. Once I retire, which is a long ways off, my wife and I will move out of state.

Why don't people go to areas more aligned with their politics instead of endlessly griping?
People live where they have family friends, jobs etc. It's not rocket science for heavens sake. People live where they want to live. Heck I was stuck in Texas for several years and most of my fneighbors and acquaintances were conservatives. But there were plenty of good friends that were liberals. You can find us everywhere.

You also have to keep in mind that as divided as the Establishment wants us to be - in reality we are all not that different. Political views is not number 1 on the list of reasons for being close to people nor does it determine where I live. There are many more important reasons then politics to choose how where and with whom we choose to live our lives.

Why do people stay in areas that are completely opposite of their political views?

Why would anyone wanna live in a homogenous hellscape?

Too much of anything is bad -- I don't care how you vote.

They usually destroy everything except public employment as they have in California and then they move to better places and bring their failed idology with them.
I've read about lots of complaints about this kind of pattern.

Yes, Like the retired northeast public and union workers moving to the Carolinas and Florida to protect their retirement funds from high taxes then voting for the same policies they meant to avoid.
