Because Israel was given to the Jews by God Himself. If you don't believe that, please offer a rational, i.e., non-superstitious, reason for their possession of it for almost all of the last 5000 years in the face of the strongest powers in the world trying to take it away from them.

Well, if we're really supposed to believe a story written by Jews about God giving them the land and making them the 'chosen', why worry? Wouldn't a logical extension of that story be that God will continue to take care of his 'chosen', no outside help needed?

Are you f-ing kidding? From about 50 BCE to 1947, the land of Israel was ruled more or less without interruption by non-Jewish (and often anti-Jewish) occupying powers. Prior to that, it continuously fell to conquering armies, as the Bible attests to. You have read the Bible, no?
"Getting to the bottom line I find it particularly abhorrent that the one movement of people, that of Zionist Jews in the early 20th Century and the post-WW II movement of Jews to the land of Israel is subject to particular Western, self-righteous attack. I don't know if it's a sudden spasm of "conscience," ...."
No need to put conscience in scare quotes; post-WWII, how many other nations seized and colonized territory by force?
If you can't understand the difference between a nation and a religion, it's your problem and not that of those who disagree with Israel yet have no problem with those who practice Judaism.
Based on your previous posts, my statement is confirmed by your own words....in spades....and there is no point in interactions with you.

Because except for those years, it was their land. The Romans did not make it a non-Jewish state. They ran it the way England ran India. After Rome, the Muslims took it over. They ran it, passing it among themselves until the British took it for a brief interval. It's really only the Muslim era that is of any length when the Jew did not control Israel.
Assyria exhiled the Jews but Cyrus let them back in a couple hundred years later.

Hey! Don't blame me if you're incapable of understanding the difference between a nation and a religion. Based on that failure of comprehension you're correct, any rational, reasonable discussion with you would be impossible, at least until you learn some simple facts and stop the 'Anti-Semite! ' BS any time someone dare disagree with the actions of a nation.

God never gave anyone a piece of land big enough to build a doghouse on.
Israel's right to the land is based on their ability to strong-arm, hold, and defend it. A bazillion groups have laid claims to that land since the beginning.
And the day another group can strong-arm it from the israelis, then THEY have a right to it so long as they can hold it.
If there is a god, he gives less than a damn about human quarrels over land. Especially land as crappy as what Israel sits on.
I'd give my "chosen people" better land than that.
I suspect that Hitler's motives were not the same as the Zionists. He eventually found Jews to be quite concentrated in Poland and Ukraine. That served his purposes beautifully.
As for the rest of the anti-Jewish nonsense in your post, I'm on my way to services. Happy New Year.
Same to you. I know this is a special time for all Jews.
