Again, I agree. So someone will say that a properly run, properly trained law enforcement agency will cost money. Sure but I have to wonder if it wouldn't actually be cheaper than the many million dollar lawsuits.

Some will say that a properly trained police officer should be paid more money. Yes, perhaps a valid argument. As long as it's combined with a higher level of accountability, I would go for that.
Well put. Money, to me, is not the most important factor. I want a highly professional police force that works reasonably under American standards of law enforcement.

Looks like there is a 3rd video where she is hitting the cop....

It could have all been dissolved when the teacher and the other people asked her to leave....but no....cannot have that...bring in the cops...

She got what she deserved....

I don't believe that the actions of this officer were appropriate in any way but it doesn't sound like the girl's actions were appropriate either.

I'm not excusing what I saw at all.

I absolutely agree. I find it hard to believe there is a scenario in which this action would be appropriate.

I have read that he has had problems before.

I think you stated it well. Too many posters on C-D think every issue is either/or.

I was quite pleased that while the police chief today was critical of the girl and her actions, including possibly striking officer, that he also said that that did not mean the officer's actions were appropriate.

Several posters here, as usual, act as if those of us who criticize the police officer are excusing the girl's action, and we are not...not at all.

I have no problem with how the officer handled it. She had the opportunity to leave on her own and chose not to.

Like my dad said, "We can do this the easy way or the hard way. Your choice." I learned quickly which was better for me.

Has anyone said what exactly she was doing that was so disruptive?

Has she been invited to the White House yet?

Supposedly she was using her cell phone and would not put it away when the teacher asked her and then would not leave the classroom.

Do we really need to point out historical (but not that long ago) issues with Catholic schools?

My sister is a city high school teacher in SC in another city there. She says they are not allowed to do anything at all to disruptive students like this except to call the principal and/or resource officer if there is one. Then they deal with it. Meanwhile the class is just on hold.

It's no wonder there is no education taking place in some schools now.

(Personally I wouldn't want my sister to try and do anything with such wild, out of control, students. Too easy to get hurt.)
