This is just more of trying to squeeze the square peg into the round hole. You tell us what we HAVE to think, and then you tell us how libertarian you are. Because it's not like there are libertarians running around with different viewpoints and positions. EVERYBODY who calls themselves libertarian have to think a certain way. EVERYBODY who calls themselves a liberal have to think a certain way. EVERYBODY who calls themselves a conservative have to think a certain way. You are the ultimate conformist, demanding that everyone else conform to your preconceptions about them.
mar·riage
ˈmerij/
noun
1.
the legally or formally recognized union of a man and a woman (or, in some jurisdictions, two people of the same sex) as partners in a relationship.
For centuries there was no legal recognition of marriage at all. All one had to do was state that you were married or cohabitate and you were considered married.
Love how this poster has to include the parentheticals that were forced to be created in order to redefine something that never existed into existence.

You are playing fast and loose with historical facts. Handfasting and other customs existed but marriage has been in existence for a very long time.

Seems you have problems with reading comprehension. Try finishing the sentence.

You need to move on too. And I need to get back to work.

Marriage has not always been a LEGAL arrangement as it is now. Once you just shacked up and called yourself married unless you were royalty or of the landed class. The vast majority of human culture marriage was not a legal contract. You didn't go to city hall and file a marriage certificate. Even in the US there was not a legal requirement for a filed license of any type to be considered married.

You seem to have a problem with understanding parentheticals.
