Lost in the discussion about low wages and the minimum wage laws is the impact of massive legal and illegal immigration. If America did not have so many immigrants coming in every year who are open to working for peanuts and live 15 to a home, there would be a shortage of workers and they would have to raise pay to get people to stay.

Want higher wages, reduce immigration (legal and illegal) AGREE?

Liberals need immigrants, they do not need native folks.

Liberals need immigrants.....bwahahahaha

Seriously, who believes its the "ebil liberals"?

News flash, while some liberals are for it, many are not. Look towards the House and Senate that don't represent the people well. This isnt a conservative vs liberal argument, its a argument about who your elected officials represent.

We don't think liberals are "ebil". Just naive, simple-minded, and entitled.

Nope. Immigration is necessary for us to have a stable economy. The United States does not have a stable population, due to below replacement birth rates. This poses a great threat to long-term recessions (i.e. Japan).

Immigration actually increases demand in the economy, because it expands the consumer base.

On top enormous job losses, there is large scale mass immigration. To put this in perspective, we allow over 1.1 million legal immigrants into the country each year, about 700,000 cheap labor “guest workers” each year, and an illegal immigrant population of 11+ million after decades of border security failures. For poor, working, and middle class Americans, if competition with cheap labor overseas wasn’t enough, our politicians had the brilliance to flood the country with an abundance of cheap labor here at home to compete with (resulting in depressed wages).

Allowing millions of domestic jobs to go overseas and then flooding the country with millions of immigrants (legal and illegal) looking for work for less pay, fiercely competing with Americans for the few jobs left is an economic disaster!

My ex is a talented software engineer, ALL his projects have been transferred to India. Yeah, sure, he found another job in couple of weeks, but tech jobs outsourcing is a trend. The H1-B visa program allows 65,000 visas to be given to companies each fiscal year to hire “skilled” foreign nationals as opposed to Americans with high skills and advanced degrees.

While builders are reporting an increasing dearth of workers in all types of construction, the shortages are especially acute for workers with basic skills like carpentry. So bringing in low skilled guest workers in order to boost economy is really a poor argument.

No it would make automation more likely. See if wages are too high while robot costs are flat, the robot becomes more attractive.

Capital approval is based on Cost of automation/wages and benefits saved, and the smaller the # of years it takes to pay back investment, the more attractive the investment is.

Newsflash: Liberals think the exact same thing about conservatives. Naive and simple-minded.

Bottom line - will wages rise? If Trump gets elected and deports 11 million people ~ well then; I guess we shall see.

Me personally? Not holding my breath.
