Of course he would.

Number of military involvements by NATO before 1991 - 0
Number of military involvements by NATO after 1991 - 4

NATO is a military organization in search of a mission, which makes it a threat to those not in NATO. NATO needs things to happen to stay relevant, so they start looking for reasons to take military action.

He is a nut case but he has 1600+ Nuclear weapons under his control. We have to work with what we can get from Russia Putin is what we got. Pushing Nato closer to his borders is just going to force him to attack a Nato country and see what happens. If a conflict with Russia ever happens it will go Nuclear no doubt about it.

From his perspective I would have to agree with him. What is the purpose of NATO in the present day? The Soviet Union has been gone for over 20 years now.

Yes, except that he is still respected by the American military (just look at Syria and Crimea) and he makes Russia relevant, even with it decrepit economy.

Obvious thread is obvious.

Why wouldn't Putin think NATO is a security threat to Russia?

After Ukraine and the ongoing Syrian debacle you would have to be stupid not to come to that conclusion.

I am gonna go start a few new threads....

Putin always called NATO as a security thread. And he is absolutely correct.

As an american taxpayer, I see no reason in continuation of NATO existence after Warsaw Pack collapsed. USA will be capable of defending itself, but why do we need to send our boys for sake of those fat europeans who don't want to maintain their army at adequate levels to defend their homelands?

Would you want to send our guys to fight for Muslim Turkey (who also buys cheap oil from ISIS by trackloads) and risk getting a few conventional missiles into NYC or LA proper from a russian submarine parked nearby?

Cold War is over and lost by Russians. NATO had to end in 1991...

Whatever I may think of Putin otherwise, I have to say that this statement hardly warrants the exclamation points that it's getting. From his point of view, he's right.
