It would be interesting to see a Republican administration move to block this as well, as I expect that most Republicans running could be counted on to do. Also, I wonder how enthusiastic the Russians or the Chinese would be about this idea.

Netanyahu leading effort to thwart Obama bid for U.N. chief

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly is planning payback for President Obama’s dismissing Mr. Netanyahu’s objections to the Iran nuclear deal last year. Mr. Netanyahu is said to be rallying moderate Arabs to thwart Mr. Obama’s bid to become the Secretary-General of the United Nations after he leaves the White House next year.

Mr. Obama has already discussed the issue with Republican, Democratic and Jewish officials in the United States, according to Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Jarida.

I get very confused about the has been dim presidents (aka odumba and bubba) wanting to be head of the UN. Apparently their egoistic narcissism leads to delusions of grandeur. Now lets get down to facts ... no security council country citizen will be a UN head. That plum seems to be reserved for the non-superpower/non-colonial countries. If we look at what the Nobel committee did with respect to our moslem POTUS, I think it will be abundantly clear to any of them what a bad idea it is/will be to put that loser in charge.

And don't think bubba's lemmings didn't try the same sheet.

Fake story from a trashy tabloid site.

It only takes one member of the permanent Security Council to veto a candidate and there's no way China and Russia would approve anyone from the U.S.

Obama is not making a bid to become U.N. chief. Suddenly the right believes an unsubstantiated story in an Arabic tabloid.

This is right. The heads of the five families (The permanent members of the security council) do not want anyone in charge who has actual power, unless they are one of their own, which of course the other members will be quick to veto. So at the end of the day, we are extremely likely to end up with someone that none of us has ever heard of before.

They'd prefer their hero Vladimir anyway.

Vlad already has a job last I checked. Besides, "Soviet heroes for $1,000, Alex" is the favorite 'Jeopardy' category choice of the Democratic left, not the Republican right.
