Stigma of the 'damaged veteran' a barrier to treatment, as suicides claim more US troops
Stigma of the 'damaged veteran' a barrier to treatment, as suicides claim more US troops | Fox News

While other families were looking forward to the holidays, Rachel Clinger was awaiting news of her husband, who had disappeared a week before Christmas from his New Jersey military base.

The wait did not last long -- Marine Sgt. Tristan Clinger’s body was found days later.

Clinger, she said, had battled depression but feared he would be discharged if he got help. He is not the only one.

There are 22 veteran suicides a day most of whom have not seen a day of combat, why this is taking place is a mystery.

Mystery? Not really. Serving in immoral, unjust and unnecessary wars is talking a toll on the collective psyche of those doing the dirty work.

I didnt say everybody, but was referring to those who take their own lives. What's your theory on the record suicides?

How about this? Everybody who committed suicide is an unique individual and should be dealt with individually.

The things we see associated with suicide outside the military are the same things we see associated with suicide in the military.

My late boyfriend committed suicide, he was an overachiever, a criminal defense attorney, well loved by his community, etc. He died due to untreated terminal mental illness, nothing more, or less.

Service members who never went to war, service members who went but did not experience combat, and service members who witnessed death on the battlefield were equally likely to commit suicide. (believe it or not)

Many serve “may be more likely to have preexisting mental illness." If they suffered preexisting mental illness, then their suicide rate would be understandably higher.

Bottom line, suicide is complex, there is no one answer fits all solution. Each individual is different.

Yes it was but I don't believe the suicide rate was anywhere near this, hard to understand.

It remains unchanged.
When your team loses the war, the mental impact can be devastating.

That was the time when the term "suicide by cop" was coined and a main stay of media stories. Suicide was epidemic but because it was perceived as a bunch of baby killing vets no one was concerned. The government did what it could to keep it silent so they would not have to treat it or pay disability benefits. It was years of study on those vets that prevents them from ignoring the new generations.
