For me, the fundamental question is;
Can we legislate morality? And if so, who's morality?
Or do we ask, are we all collectivley responsible for the actions of all?
Or do we all pay for the consequences of our own actions?
Seems this is what politics will be for ever asking.
And since RoaminRed already listed that, I get to put another!
Alcohol and nicotine treated like the addictive drugs that they are with same penalties in place for use, dealing, and manufacture as other dangerous addictive drugs (such as heroin, opium, narcotics).
You would really place alcohol in the same category as heroin and opium? Or crack and meth? I mean, I'm able to have a glass of wine with dinner or the occassional Saturday afternoon beer without destroying my life. I've known a few total alcoholics, so I see how it can destroy a life. But for most people, it doesn't have that effect.
I would like to be able to drink a beer while I'm laying out on the little beach area on the south side of the Tennessee River. It's legal on the north side, but not on the south.
If you're actually serious about that, and not just being sarcastic...boy am I ever glad that I don't live in your world! I just don't get the mentality of someone using their personal religious beliefs to control others.
You can get married without a church, people do it everyday.
But you can't get married without a license issued by the government.
I'm all for that too!! If it means I can send my special needs child to catholic school and receive speech and occupational therapy services from the state like he gets from the public schools.
