None were traitors. President Andrew Johnson granted amnesty to all of the ex-rebels.

Local decision made for a local district.

I don't see the problem. How many white families would send their children to Nat Turner Middle School?

HISD board votes to rename 4 schools named after Confederate loyalists - Houston Chronicle

I have no problem with getting rid of those names as long as the rule is applied equally. Can we start getting rid of the names of all slave owners like Washington?

That aside, liberals are just so eager to trash our history, good and bad, in the name of political correctness!
Their schools, their decision.

I am surprised to learn that Houston is a majority-liberal city, though.

Houston, Austin, Dallas are all solid liberal cities.

But they are not your California type liberal.

Obama and Hillary are traitors, but things are named after them. Double standards anyone?

That's objectively untrue.

One of the cringe-iest phenomenon in the world is when liberals attempt to appropriate the nationalist accusation of "traitor". We know that you don't support anything resembling national sovereignty, and so please save us your disingenuous concern for all things theoretically seditious.

I curious as to what the graduation rates and level of scholastic achievement are in those particular schools?

Like jacquesg and desertdetroiter said, that's a local decision.

If the locals prefer to rename them after Mumia Abu-Jamal or Ron Karenga, they can have at it.
