Really? And what "mess" was that? The collapse of the home mortgage/housing market was due to policies that date back to Jimmy Carter, NOT conservative policies. Republicans had warned that those policies were a train wreck waiting to happen, but the Democrats thumbed their noses and said there was no problem. Well, guess what? The Republicans were right.

Except that's not what conservatives actually think or believe. That's a mentality that Progressives want to project onto Conservatives... the question of whether that actually comports with Reality is totally irrelevant to Progressives. The only thing that matters to Progressives is pushing a specific narrative to get specific results... facts are irrelevant to them. Progressives will say absolutely anything to get what they want... a sure sign of greed.

Really? That's a laugh. We left CA. And it wasn't because it was a utopia.

If Carter's policies were so bad then why didn't any of the Republican presidents after him rescind them? They had ample opportunity. You're trying to put the blame only on those politicians that you disagree with. That's intellectually dishonest.

And you aren't doing the same thing in this post? Projecting falsehoods on those you call "Progrssive" that may or may not have any basis in reality? Oh I forgot, only conservatives are allowed to do that. Its amazing how hypocritical you guys are sometimes.

It occurred to me since I wrote the above post in answer to "ambient," that the reason "progressives" don't believe in "natural rights" is because they were first articulated by John Calvin, who believed the Bible pointed to the existence of these natural rights. John Calvin was very familiar to to the Christians who formed the American colonies, as was John Locke (a Calvinist), who also spoke of "natural rights" in his writings. Our founding fathers drew heavily on the works of Calvin and Locke. If the "progressives" acknowledged "natural rights," they would have to acknowledge God, and they cannot do this.

Progressives believe that all rights are granted by government, and that they can be taken away at any time. Woodrow Wilson (whom some refer to as the father of the American progressive movement) said that we should ignore the entire first part of the Declaration of Independence. He was talking about the Preamble.

Are you aware of how much that act has been changed over the years? Plenty of conservatives have had ample opportunity to rework it to fit their ideals but never did. Look at this Wiki article to get an idea of the number of changes that's been done to it. Again, why didnt the Republicans fix it when they had the chance? I think both parties had a hand in the housing debacle. To place blame on one party alone is dishonest.

For your information, the Republicans tried repeatedly to warn of the coming mortgage crisis because of the CRA, but the Democrats mocked and ridiculed them for it. All was well. No problem, they said.
