Out of frustration with liberals and concern that Obama was going to soon declare martial law and repeal the Constitution, Scalia was part of a plot that was actually out to get Obama. Backers are in the shadows but among the highest levels of SuperPAC, business, legal, and political echelons of the conservative base. But his assassin/mole in DC was compromised, and that's why he fled to this retreat in Texas with his backers. As his backers realized that the plot was unraveling, they decided the risk of Supreme Court vacancy was smaller than that of Scalia getting encircled and ultimately ratting them out, so they turned on him. They decided better to make it look like an accident with Scalia...but then they left a few twists in: they left in the pillow part and skipped the autopsy to drive the theories back toward where they knew they would naturally go: toward the liberal side! It's a brilliant deflection away from their own plot!
In conclusion, Scalia was in on a plot that went bad and his backers cleverly took him out to cover their tracks.

I think this has Koch Brothers written all over it!
Scalia was meeting with people at this ranch... unlikely they would be Obama supporters and baby-killing liberals. So who was he meeting with?? Why have none of these shadowy power figures been revealed? Security was present with such a group of people, no doubt, to handle any intruders. But how do you stop the inside job?
And who exactly does Poindexter work for?...
There are many, many questions to unravel here as to why the conservative Illuminati decided to take out Scalia.
It is no doubt a gamble for the conservative powerholders. They may have hoped to have taken him out at least a lot closer to Obama's end term - there must have been a real hole in their plot to have made them act so fast right now. But they're betting that any short-term pain from the vacancy will be offset by their ability to continue to plot undetected for another day...

Don't forget that the John Poindexter who owned the ranch where this secret cabal was meeting is obviously a stand-in for the *real* John Poindexter, who was responsible for this - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inform...areness_Office.
Not sure exactly how it ties in, but you know in your heart that it must!

Not a bad plot for a novel. Now you've given the whole outline to someone else. Definitely got a few holes in it though.
